Chambliss: Boehner’s Walkout a ‘Good Move’

Georgia senator Saxby Chambliss (R.) told host Bob Schieffer on CBS’s Face the Nation this morning that Speaker John Boehner’s decision to walk out of the debt talks with the president was a “good move.”

“The president came in late in the game even though this scenario has been very predictable for months and months now,” Chambliss said. “And it’s time for the real leadership in a bipartisan way in the House and Senate to get together and come up with some proposal that can pass the House and the Senate and go to the president and say, ‘Mr. President, this is it.’”

Both Chambliss and his fellow panelist, Virginia senator Mark Warner (D.), agreed, however, that if the U.S. defaulted on its debt, that action would constitute an indirect tax on all Americans via interest-rate hikes.
