Former Bay State governor Mitt Romney supports Speaker John Boehner as House Republicans move forward. His campaign says that he is reviewing the Boehner plan. “Governor Romney thinks President Obama’s leadership has been an historic failure. He applauds Speaker Boehner for standing firm against raising taxes when our nation can least afford them,” says Andrea Saul, a spokeswoman for Romney, in a statement to National Review Online.
About time you said something on this issue, Mitt.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseAnd what he said is he's fully on-board for reducing next year's projected expenditures by 0.19%, which would still make it bigger than this year's. Which means he's all for increasing government spending. Sounds right.
I'm not really picking on Ol' Mitt in particular, 99% of the Republican politicians are not for actually reducing spending year over year.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseToday, Romney has handed Bachmann the decisive hammer with which to beat him into the ground.
Romney is praising a Boehner plan which will cut all of $7 billion dollars from the current year, while increasing the debt limit by some one trillion.
All Bachmann has to do is to continue opposing any increase to the debt ceiling, and she'll be able to pummel Romney into oily stain on the sidewalk.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseBut, but ... erm ... isn't Bachmann's opponent ... Obama?
Focus on the ultimate goal: the ultimate opponent.
If Bachmann's to get the nom, she needs to convince people why SHE is the one to beat Obama.
Ditto ALL the GOP candidates.
I don't want to hear why the other guy's not right: Why are you right?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIn response to your question, no, Bachmann's opponent is not Obama, it's Romney, the front runner. First things first.
The initial concern for Republicans is to nominate in the primary the most conservative electable candidate they can. (And not the supposedly most electable conservative. That results in guys like Ford, Dole, Bush, Bush, and McCain.) After that comes the general election.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseBy the way. While Bachmann pounds Romney into little pieces for being irresponsible on the deficit, that's when she'll be getting her message out on what she stands for. And at the same time, she'll be readying herself to do the same kind of pounding on Obama.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseFunny how Romney only talks after finding out via committee which side of an issue he should come down on, isnt it?
The man is a poll-tested potted plant.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseRomney supports plan that cuts only 7 billion in spending? How much more establishment can Mitt become?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI was on the fence about the lastest Boehner/republican plan, but now that Romney "applauds" it, I know it is worthless and can cheerfully and guiltlessly condemn it. Thanks Mitt! I wondered what you were good for.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWell if the grandfather of ObamaCare is endorsing the Boehner plan, I now have confirmation that it must be a bad deal for the country. Thanks for clearing that up for me Mitt.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI don't know if "Romney applauds Boehner plan" is the right headline. Your own post says he is currently reviewing the plan (i.e., has yet to endorse it), but applauding Boehner for standing firm against tax increases.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseComing out in support of a "make the best of a bad situation" plan? How is Romney still in front of the GOP field?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI'm sorry, but how does the Romney campaign saying it is "reviewing the Boehner plan" = Romney "applauding" the Boehner plan?
The quote provided praises Boehner specifically for standing up to Obama and refusing to raise taxes and does not purport to endorse the Boehner Plan as a whole.
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abuse"He applauds Speaker Boehner for standing firm against raising taxes when our nation can least afford them,” says Andrea Saul..."
Talk about having cake paid for by taxpayers yet unborn...
Romney...fully taking a stand on both sides of an issue.
