Or the lack thereof. After bobbing-and-weaving for nine minutes, Carney finally says what everybody knows: The president won’t put his plan on paper because he doesn’t want it to become “politically charged” before a compromise can be reached. In other words, you’ve got to pass it to find out what’s in it:
UPDATE: So POTUS doesn’t have a plan, as such. The Republicans, for their part, have several. But the president’s senior advisers are recommending that he veto the latest.
"The purpose of this has been to get a deal." said Opie Taylor of the WH (Carney).
There are "reams" of paper in drawers of Obama's points.
I like the boos from the press, the natives are getting restless.
"Chuck" is asking for Carney to "release" the plan from last week that Obama rejected. Carney then insults that reporter (tomatoes thrown). They are asking about entitlements. "Put it out there." (I am enjoying this, thanks Foster!).
"Fluid situation." (I think this indicates wee-wee'd up).
LOL... Yes, Obama is a true deficit-warrior. Just look at the budget he offered back in February...oh wait, never mind, don't look at that...look at his revised budget...oh wait, there's nothing to look at as he never actually revised his budget...what a joke....
President Obama will do what he always does. Take credit for doing that which he had no part in by claiming the plan that passes was the plan he supported all along. He's a lawyer and there's a reason he doesn't put things in writing. If he writes down his plan he can't later accuse people of misrepresenting his plan.
this is the American political version of the peasants revolting! Love it, but I'm not sure if this is reaching out to the American people enough. Obama's repetitive droning seems to soothe the half-witted middle...
Note that just after 6:30, Carney talks about "significant savings in revenue, savings in closing loopholes, lowering the tax rate and broadening the the tax base..." Only in Washington and only by Democrats is increasing tax revenue equivalent to "savings".
Have to agree here. Let's not get fooled by these lapdogs. There is no renewed integrity. Its just becoming increasingly difficult for them to bail this guy out.
Interesting theory, probably something to it. It demonstrates the box he is in: release no plan, and the press gets restless and chews up Carney, then reports unflatteringly on Obama; release a written plan, and the public is likely to love it about as much as Obamacare.
All as we head into election season. tough days to be the most liberal President in history.
@RTP - Agree 100% - they weren't "hitting" Carney - they were begging, pleading with him to give them something, anything that they could plaster everywhere to show that Obama had a plan, and that the dasterdly GOP were the ones holding up the free lollipops and unicorn rides.
found this feedback awesome. Love how the people here think before they write. I am in the middle on the two views expressed in these comments. I think it ivy league aloofness (reads: propeller-heads) with the result that "we'll get to see it after they pass it" At which time, can attempt to understand it (since it's doubtful we are able).
I think we have reached the clichéd tipping point with the Obama presidency. The American people will put up with a lot of things, taxation and regulation to name a couple. However, when the president starts to act like a patronizing adolescent that is when the American people get riled up. It’s one thing if I disagree with the way you run the country, but don’t ever talk to us like we’re ignorant. Americans on the whole are very involved politically but Obama in his Bubble of Narcissism can’t even comprehend that there are people in the world who are capable of understanding what goes on in Washington, that there may be people who are as smart if not smarter than he. That is his fatal flaw, his hamartia.
Personally, I think Obama checked out the day he ceded the Presidential podium to Clinton some months back, but now, when character and diplomacy count most, it has become painfully apparent to those who had their collective heads in the sand that our President is a cipher.
I used to be like Obama, when I was nineteen. Many people think Obama acts like a child, he’s not a child, he’s a teenager, just bright enough to understand but too inexperienced to see beyond his own nose. I got experience in the real world and sometimes it hurt, but that’s what growth is about. Obama has been coddled and protected his entire life, it is too late for him. He will always lash out at those who have grown up and grown past him. America sees that now and his lame duck presidency has begun. Jimmy Carter is smiling. He will no longer be the worst President of modern times.
Your description also fits Carter during his term. He was just too smart for us, and governing was beneath him, so when challenged, he did the teenager bit.
Want a preview of Obama out of office? Take a look at Jimmy undercutting administrations of both parties, spewing hate about Israel, and endlessly searching for an audience.
Obama's "business model," if you will, has been riling up ignorant inner-city neo-peasants.
The 2008 Obama was simply Jesse Jackson better than Jesse Jackson did Jesse Jackson -- Jesse Jackson concealed behind the image of Chauncy Gardener (from the Peter Sellers movie "Being There").
But that can only get a candidate across the election finish line, it's been a huge failure as a model for governance.
Since the going has gotten tough, Obama has fallen back on what got him there -- rabble rousing ignorant inner-city neo-peasants. In the broader population and electorate, it simply does not work, too many are insulted by the blatant dishonesty.
My question is what ever happened to Hillary Clinton? Did some State Dept executive jet crash in a remote jungle or something?
Gee, I guess us mere Amercian peasants aren't supposed to notice her complete absence? Mrs. Last Admin to claim a balanced budget?
You can bet Obama is noticing the deafening silence of Clinton Inc. and is as aware as me that she is poised to swoop in with her flying monkeys in 2012 primary season and "save" the country.
Ergo, Obama is in narrow retrospect playing to what base he can salvage for himself in the primaries.
Wow, the Obama White House really does think we are stupid.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseNo, the White House knows that (at least) 53% of the public is that stupid. Sadly.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseYour 100% right in 2008 53% of the voters were stupid and I hope they have moved to Europe before the vote of Nov. 2011.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseYou mean -- the press corps is doing it's job?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseDid Carney ever say anything? I'm still listening...don't hear anything.
Was that the White House press corps that I heard in the background actually asking questions?

When it's so bad you start to miss Hellen Thomas...

Reply to this commentLinkReport Abusespot on Lon... sadly true. Makes one shake their head at so many who have their heads in the sand.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThat, to me, was the press corps begging Carney to release a plan so they could carry the water for the White House.
You can say they were doing their job. To be sure, a credible argument can be made for that position.
I just don't buy that they wouldn't IMMEDIATELY fall in line with Obama's plan if released.
Now, why Obama is so adrift on this issue is a mystery to those who haven't clued in that he is woefully above his paygrade.
