During his press conference with Mitch McConnell a few minutes ago, John Boehner said, as Andrew has noted: “We are going to be able to come to some agreement with the White House and end this impasse.
He also said that: “We are dealing with reasonable, responsible people who want this crisis to end as quickly as possible and I think we will.”
I believe he’s right about the former — there will be something agreed to, nothing as good as what the House almost voted on Thursday night, nothing as good as they voted on Friday.
And I want to believe the latter. The evidence suggests something different.
What do you think? Is that simply a necessary reasonable assumption for anyone with any hope of negotiating — as long as your eyes are wide open?
