Perry No Isolationist on Foreign Policy

by Katrina Trinko

Dan Blumenthal, who served in the Department of Defense in the George W. Bush administration and is now a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, is among those who met with Rick Perry last month in Austin to talk about national security and foreign policy, according to a source familiar with the meeting.

According to the same source, Perry’s comments indicated he is a “governor who fully understands the unique and exceptional role that the U.S. plays in the world, and the need for U.S. strength and leadership and that we live in a dangerous world.” Perry does not have “the neo-isolationism that you might expect from certain people [close to] the Tea Party.”

CORRECTION: Thanks to the joys of faltering cell phone reception, this post originally included the phrase “near-isolationism.” It has been corrected to “neo-isolationism.”
