Qaddafi’s Fall Imminent

The Libyan mujahideen (a.k.a the “rebels”) have reportedly entered Tripoli, captured at least one of Muammar Qaddafi’s sons, and are closing in on Qaddafi’s compound. It appears that those who wanted Qaddafi supplanted by an unknown that is known only to include virulently anti-American Islamists are about to get their wish. Here’s hoping that they are right and I am wrong about what happens next.

No, you're right, Andy. It will be an anti-American, anti-israel islamic state. The kind of guys Obama likes.

Re: "anti-American, anti-israel islamic state"

That will of course be the end game of Iraq and Afghanistan no matter how much blood and treasure America throws into those Islamic rat holes.

But those are the kinds of despots and autocrats that the Bush Neocons like.

It ain't just Obama...

Indeed.
Any comments, Rich? Dan? Jonah? Certainly someone is ready and eager to put Mr. McCarthy in his place?

"Here’s hoping that they are right and I am wrong about what happens next."

My thoughts exactly, but I don't think you/ the skeptics are wrong. The U.S.'s best case scenario now is that a second civil war amongst the parties striving for leadership breaks out.

Not to say that you are not correct, but it seems rather sad that the best hope for American interests will be served by continued killing.

My thought is, the longer it takes for Islamists to formally take over, the better. Besides, I'm pretty sure that the Islamists aren't going to let this chance escape them.

Again, let's hope the skeptics are all wrong, and that some happy western style democracy is on it's way. Considering that several of Gadhafi's sons were working to turn Libya towards that very end, and the "rebels" rose up against them, speaks very much to the intentions of the "rebels".

And the people who wanted him dead because, well, the terrorist dude needs killing (have we all forgotten what he did in the 80's? Really?) will get what they want.

typical McCarthy...rather have an Arab he knows and trusts in place killing his own people, and not an unknown who may be an anti-American islamist.

Andy, remind us of the last time you met a muslim you actually like and respect?

Oh, that's right, you haven't.

I think I understand. Its only okay to topple a brutal, anti-American murderer dictator who sits atop oil reserves, running the risk of Islamists coming to power, with no real certain plan as to what happens after his ouster, if a Republican is President.

Got it. I thought freedom was worth spreading for its own sake. Good to know our interests are worth more than their freedom and their lives.

oh, Andy --- you use the term 'reportedly'. Well, i've been watching the BBC and al-Jazeera America on my computer for the past few hours, and it isn't 'reportedly'. It's actual. It's happening. There are live reports and updates.

As the ICC actually confirms that they have Saif, and Mohammed has surrendered, and the actual reporters (unlike your estimable self) are actually traveling with the rebels, and reporting their entrance into the various districts in Tripoli, the actions are a lot more than 'reportedly'.

We don't really know what's going to happen next. That is not the point. The point is, we have no idea what's going to happen next!

it's no secret that all of these "rebels" in the ME came to the US to be trained and supported by the Obama regime. It's all the work of the global leftists. Egypt, Tunisia, now Libya, yet to come Syria and Iran. Listen to them. They all speak the marxist line.

I support the overthrow of these despots, but the people are getting marxists. Same coin, different side.

Don't worry. Everything will be sweetness and light. Just ask the State Department!

I'd much prefer that Qaddafi were still in power. I know that the US has been trying to get him out of power for the last 40 years, but I'd rather it not happen on Obama's watch.

Keeping in mind the pretext that Obama and NATO used to insert themselves in this fiasco, it will be interesting how the Obama regime (and the press) handles the post-Gaddafi blood-bath that is SURELY coming. That's just the Muslim way. When you take your enemy's castle, the ground runs red with his blood. I suspect it will be absolutely no different when Tripoli falls.

Except that did not happen in Tunisia, Egypt..

Not yet.

Already we're seeing signs leading to an Egyptian 'Terror' with the rise in influence of the Muslim Brotherhood and persecution of Copts.

You can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm fairly confident that there wasn't a civil war raging for 6-months in either Tunisia or Egypt, right?

As far coups go, both Egypt and Tunisia were about as bloodless as you can get. Libya, OTOH, is a completely different story.

Well, at least the president kept the promise he made in February, and this "kinetic military action" only lasted "days, not months or years". Oh. Wait a minute...
