Science, Politics, and Derb

John, Jim: I never thought I would provoke so much feedback for arguing that we should not place much value on the scientific opinions of people who do not know much of anything about science. Seems uncontroversial enough. I was particularly amused by Jonathan Chait’s boast that he knows more about science than Rick Perry does. I suspect that Michael Schumacher knows more about the history of Senegal than Franz Schubert did, an equally relevant fact.
