Obama Arrested for Drunk Driving in Massachusetts!

No, not that Obama, silly. Boston talkmeister Michael Graham points to the story of Onyango Obama, a 67-year-old illegal alien from Kenya, arrested Wednesday night in Framingham for drunk driving after he almost crashed into a police car. The original news story reports that he had been ordered deported but absconded, along with hundreds of thousands of others whom the immigration service has announced it will no longer look for. Presumably he was identified by a means other than Secure Communities, which has not been activated in that jurisdiction, because of the governor’s opposition.

But even if Secure Communities were operational there, it might not matter, because it’s up to the immigration authorities to decide whether to pick up the identified illegal alien, and under the other Obama’s management, the bar has been set pretty high for deportation. That’s especially salient in Massachusetts in the wake of last week’s hit-and-run killing of an American man by a drunk-driving, repeat-offending, illegal alien criminal who had never been referred to ICE despite arrests for assaulting a police officer and breaking and entering. Here’s Graham:

Unfortunately, even if we did have a governor who cared more about public safety than politics, it apparently wouldn’t make any difference. Fox 25 here in Boston reports that they contacted ICE about the killer in Milford and were told that, even if he had been referred to them, the crimes of resisting arrest, assault and B&E “aren’t necessarily serious enough to warrant deportation under current policy.”

Get that — resisting arrest, assault, and B&E are not “serious” crimes arrest for which would lead ICE to request a hold be put on the perp pending deportation. This isn’t the fault of the ICE agents in the field — it’s this administration’s exercise of “prosecutorial discretion”, which is to say, administrative amnesty. (See the ICE agents’ union’s condemnation of the “backdoor amnesty” policy here.)

"and under the other Obama’s management, the bar has been set pretty high for deportation."

Actually, more illegals have been deported in the past two years than any other two year period. Period.

Unfortunately, you fail at logic. Just because something happens in greater numbers, it does not necessarily follow that it's happening at a greater rate. Let me put this in simple terms for you:

If you ate 10% of all ice cream at your local Baskin-Robbins every week, and suddenly the company doubled the amount of ice cream offered in its store, if you continued to eat only "10% of all the ice cream" you would clearly be eating more TOTAL ice cream in terms of mass, calories, etc.

Similarly, the issue is whether Obama continues to deport at the same rate as Bush (or whether he deports at a greater rate, or lesser rate). At the end of the day, the "total number" of deported aliens really isn't a very good measure because we know the TOTAL amount of illegal aliens IN the U.S. is constantly changing. So we have to look at his policy choice. And what are they? Well, a free pass for 300,000 in detention and a free pass for millions more who will never make it into deportation proceedings.

Yes, Obama is an open-border president, even more so than Bush.

Outrageous!

More proof that our immigration laws are not being enforced, especially now in this administration.

Imagine if this were a member of Palin's family? It would be non-stop news in the MSM.

I don't think this person is related to the president - both "Onyango" and "Obama" are pretty common Luo names.

You mean there's another illegal alien from Kenya named Obama in the U.S.?

There's been a lot of discussion about how to or the impossibility of deporting illegal aliens. Here's a simple policy: you can stay if you have no contact with the government. No drain on the taxpayer, no problem. Arrested for anything, gone. Apply for public assistance, gone. Get medical care without paying, gone. Of course, as pervasive as the government is these days, that's a fairly high bar.

Guess I'm too much of a pinko squish for NRO. I'd note that if an illegal alien has been around for awhile and applies for medical care without having the money, it might be because he or she has been working at low wages with no benefits, and the employers like it that way. I'd still be willing to deport (usually), but then I'd apply a penalty to the employer(s). Similarly for any other sort of public assistance; and don't forget, that includes education for the anchor babies.

Tax and penalize the employers! To avoid affecting the innocent, we need to rigorously enforce something along the lines of Real ID. For those worried about civil liberties, we could do it this way: Real ID is a safe harbor for employers. If the employee exhibits one but it is forged, then the employee only suffers. If the employee does not exhibit one, and is hired, then any consequences cost the employer. For example, if the employee is sick or hurt (on or off the job, with or without insurance) and costs the public $25,000 to fix it, and turns out to be an illegal who was hired without exhibiting fake Real ID, then the employer is fined $25,000. If the employee is DUI and causes $2,000,000 damages, then the employer is fined $2,000,000.

It's your free choice, employers. What do you say?

I believe the proverbial shark has been jumped for our government's lack of concern about -- or is it disdain for? -- our sovereignty and integrity as a civilization. Like Ancient Rome, Imperial Britain, present-day Canada or anywhere else at any other time, America, despite the liberals who recite Emma Lazarus' poem as the encapsulation of American policy, is a culture.

The federal government today shows disregard for that culture -- which is perfectly fine and constitutional but might annoy the American people -- as well as the laws it is supposed to enforce and execute -- which is neither fine nor constitutional.

If our government can't fulfill its most basic, non-controversial function of protecting the borders and policing against crime (and punishing those who commit crimes, including illegal immigrants), how on earth can it micro-manage the many other aspects of our lives that Obama wants it to have oversight for?

Like Ancient Rome or Imperial Britain (but, thankfully, not present-day Canada), we seem intent on making sure we as a civilization go the way of the dodo.

It would be great if this could be blamed on Obama and if we could be done with him in 2012. But even those running as Republicans -- most egregious cases in point, Rick Perry and Jon Huntsman -- see no need for the federal government to undertake its most basic responsibility of overseeing the border and dealing with foreign actors, be they invading armies or drunken Kenyans with an expired visa.

If this country is going to survive, our leaders (including on the GOP) need to understand the place of government, and that a government that tries to involve itself in everything (such as the provision of "free" school lunches to every child in Detroit) cannot do those things which are most central to its purpose (such as policing the borders and against crime).

Make these freeloaders, criminals, thugs, drunks, burglars and assorted aliens live with the dem leadership and the bammy and moochelle obamas. They would then be shipped back from whence they came, post haste.

I don't have all the facts on this DWI arrest, but I'm sure the police acted stupidly.

President Obama has a half-uncle named Omar Obama, born in 1944, who allegedly resides in Boston. Omar's father (Barack's paternal grandfather) was named Hussein Onyango Obama. He supposedly prefers to go by "Onyango."

President Obama also has other illegal immigrant relatives known to live in the Boston area, namely his Aunt Zeituni Onyango. President Obama's own father had a drinking problem, too, and died in a drunk driving accident.

I think you're wrong, Mark - this is almost certainly the president's half-uncle.

But the point is, make the accusation - spread the meme - then dare the president to deny it. I don't think he can.

Funny.

But seriously, I'm floored.

This is what Wikipedia has to say about Omar Obama: "Half-uncle of Barack Obama, born on June 3, 1944 in Nyang’oma Kogelo. Oldest son of Onyango and Sarah Obama, resides in Boston, Massachusetts."

The page hasn't been edited since August 2, so this has not been added since the story broke.

The man's name is Onyango Obama, same middle name as Barack's uncle. He is 67, same as Barack's uncle. He resides in Boston, just like Barack's other illegal alien relative, Zeituni.

It all happens within days of an administrative amnesty, and the story's not even getting much mention on the conservative sites?

Nary a peep about this on the internet. Drudge has linked to an Australian newspaper story on it. That's how bad the media is; To find unflattering stories on anything relevant to Family Obama, you have to travel to a different hemisphere to read about it.

PS - I have never heard the term "half uncle" before today. Go figure.
