Bachmann Hints Irene, Earthquake Message from God to D.C.

In Sarasota, Fla. yesterday, Michele Bachmann suggested that the recent spate of natural disasters showed that God was sending Washington a message.

“I don’t know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We’ve had an earthquake; we’ve had a hurricane. He said, ‘Are you going to start listening to me here?’” Bachmann said, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

“Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we’ve got to rein in the spending,” Bachmann continued.

According to Rochester, N.Y. TV station WHEC, Bachmann made the comments “humorously.” Afterwards, she said, “My comments were not ones that were meant to be taken lightly. What I was saying in a humorous vein is that there are things that politicians need to pay attention to. It’s not every day that we have an earthquake in the United States. What I think that we are seeing is that in this country we have to have margin, financially. When we are so out over the cliff financially we don’t have the margin that we need anymore.”

UPDATE: Bachmann press secretary Alice Stewart tells Talking Points Memo about Bachmann’s remarks, “”Obviously she was saying it in jest.”

Cue the theme to "Twilight Zone". When will this nitwit fade away?

Leave those kind of jokes to the pundits. The last thing she needs is to invite comparison to Falwell.

I disagree. Her words will be twisted no matter what. She can't be walking on eggshells for the next year. Let her talk. She has done fine so far.

You think it is fine to throw out a quote that seems to imply God is wreaking havoc upon the United States because we have not balanced our budget? I am sorry, this is indicative of her beliefs just as Obama's redistribution quote with Joe the plumber was indicative of his beliefs.

Even the news organization reporting the incident says that Bachmann was joking. I don't think Obama jokes much; he definitely wasn't joking when he talked about "spreading the wealth."

Gosh, Hardcastle, how much more of your wealth gets spread around under the current tax rates than would be the case if his predecessor was still around?

What does that have to do with . . . anything??

Actually, there are numerous earthquakes in the US every day. Most of them don't rise to the level of a 5.8, but a quick glance at the USGS earthquake map will show you that there's dozens of them across the country daily.

Maybe it is that, on most days, G-d is just a tiny bit [irritated] off at hedonists and socialists. ;)

Huh?

Mrs. Bachmann is better than this, or so I thought.

We all know the Democrats have made a mess of Washington, Government, etc., over the past decades, but to reference God/Religion in this manner?

As if an earthquake has anything to do with the incompetent, insane, disastrous state of Our Federal Government under Obama, Reid, Pelosi?

The bizarre aspect is, many who are stuck on fashion from Our side will cheer on the poorly conceived offering - devoted to the image. The pathetic stereotype used to debase the Conservative side only is enabled with this mindless offering.

We have already watched Perry say some juvenile things about the Fed, make some tiresome class warfare references to "Wall Street", etc., all in a rather tired manner in a cheap attempt to placate Our base. Do we want to win, or just give Obama and Company four more years with a childish self destruction?

Fashion weakening the offering, as the influential political issue of the horrid economy created by the disastrous Democrats becomes lost with this mindless distraction. The Delaware Debacle was a lesson few learned.

We cannot afford this nonsense in 2012, not again.

Bachmann is prepared.
Water skis and a shark tank.
Dons leather jacket.

Aaaaaayyyy!

For all of the comparisons of Bachmann to Palin, Sarah has never showed what can be called the Social Conservative's Achilles Heel. Michele, on the other hand, should be a writer for The Daily Show when her campaign tanks.

The message is, "GET OUT OF PERRY'S WAY."

Perry hasn't even been in a debate yet. I'm a fan of Perry from what I know so far, but I like Bachmann, too. Her rise has been stopped short by Perry's entry -- maybe permanently, maybe not. It's far too early to say. I would note that the first Perry performance I saw was his appearance a while back with Jon Stewart -- where he did OK, but I thought he was a little charmingly awkward and not as honed as he needs to be. Maybe now he's honed. We'll see.

Too bad a proven and effective leader with actual accomplishments like Pawlenty was knocked out by an unaccomplished, though certainly talented and smart, representative like Bachmann. She's had her moment, and now it's time for the electorate to focus on the serious candidates who have track records and can win.

It has nothing to do with "track records" and "accomplishments", as you see them. It's about leaving certain things out of the conversation that don't need to be there.

To wit: I'm fine with Bachmann, as POTUS, doing what she can to arrest and roll back the "homosexual agenda". I just don't want or need her, as a member of the government, citing the Bible as a reason. That actually weakens the effort. There are plenty of secular reasons to do so...for example, me never having to read another story like this: External Link  (more proof that part of the end goal is the establishment of yet another leftist privileged/protected minority victim class).

I read the story you linked. Since this is a private college, what is the problem with asking incoming students if they are gay? "Prefer not to answer" is an option. If people are offended by this, they can apply to another college.

RE: "If people are offended by this, they can apply to another college."

Roger that. However, it feeds the agenda that is looking to make it the norm.

From the article:

Shane Windmeyer, executive director of Campus Pride, which calls itself the leading national nonprofit advocating safer learning environments for LGBT college students, praised Elmhurst College.

"Elmhurst College has really set the bar when it comes to college admissions and allowing LGBT students to be who they are and to be out," Windmeyer said. "As a result, they can take responsibility for setting a safe learning environment for all students."

For the past five years, Campus Pride has been trying to get the optional question included in a standardized online college application now used by more than 400 U.S. universities, including Ivy League schools, Windmeyer said.

The creep is not imagined. The goal is a privileged minority. Yay "Diversity".

Incidentally, if, er, when admission points are awarded for batting for the other team, I'll have my kids check the box. It's not like they'll be asked to prove it and they'll be all about confidentiality. Why not?

When I was in college, we seriously considered having members of our organization join the LGBT student organization, gain a majority, and vote to disband. Their bylaws were tragically thin. Boom - one less reliably leftist vote on the student organizations council! We thought that would be mean, though, and didn't.

Let's say it becomes a question on the common application. Is there anything that requires colleges to use the common application?

As for being a "privileged minority", I suspect that life is a whole lot easier as a heterosexual than as a homosexual.

RE: "Let's say it becomes a question on the common application. Is there anything that requires colleges to use the common application?"

Right. "There's nothing to see here...move along." Until the toothpaste is out of the tube and can't be put back in. Nice strategy. Not buying it. Just be honest and be a cheerleader for it instead of feigning reason.

RE: "I suspect that life is a whole lot easier as a heterosexual than as a homosexual."

I suspect that life is tougher drunk than sober, too, but that's no reason to elevate lushes. I don't care if their "lifestyle choice" makes life harder - and certainly see no reason to give them advantages...on college admission or anything else.
