Christopher Hitchens on Rick Perry

Surprise! He doesn’t like the God talk. (Or God.)

Is it better to have a candidate who actually believes in biblical inerrancy and the extreme youthfulness and recency of the Grand Canyon, or a candidate who half-affects such convictions in the hope of political gain? Either would be depressing.

Hitchens provides no evidence that Perry has ever embraced, partly or fully, young-earth creationism. So is it more depressing to have a much-feted columnist not know what he’s talking about, or making stuff up?
