Perry Opposes ‘Military Adventurism’

Rick Perry said today that he did “not believe that America should fall subject to a foreign policy of military adventurism” in a speech to veterans.

“We should only risk shedding American blood and spending American treasure when our vital interests are threatened and we should always look to build coalitions among the nations to protect the mutual interests of freedom loving people,” Perry added at the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in San Antonio, Tex., today, according to ABC News.

Perry also stressed that “we cannot concede the moral authority of our nation to multi-lateral debating societies” and that “we must renew our commitment to taking the fight to the enemy wherever they are before they strike at home.”

“we cannot concede the moral authority of our nation to multi-lateral debating societies”

Take that, United Obama Nations....

A muddled message from Perry, tinged with anti-Semitism.

I trust you comment was in jest -- much as the mainstream media would report it. I took it that way, anyway.

I guess he's following Obama's lead there, huh? Because I can only assume you think he's saying Israel isn't in our interest? But he counts Israel as our ally and supports them, so maybe not. Tell me what exactly you dreamed up so that I can understand.

No irony intended. Sure, there are phrases that I want to jump up and celebrate. But there is also a rebuke to the Neocons and a suggestion of retreat to fortress America that will be chilling when read in Israel. Of course, there are also phrases that can be read to refute my interpretation. That's why I called it "muddled." But after the muddle, the feeling it left me with is that Israel is on its own to deal with the craziness of its neighborhood.

Given the governor's other statements regarding Israel, I think you can breathe easier.

That said, this was a speech to American veterans about America's interests.

I dont think we read or heard the same speech. Whenever the US has dialed back their own foreign intervention, it has always come with increased support for Isreali defense goals.

The only thing muddled are your comments. Living up to defense treaties and standing by our allies is acting in the interest of the U.S. Perry has a long record of standing firmly with Israel and there is nothing in this latest speech or anything else he has ever said or done to remotely suggest otherwise. Your comments are not just indefensible; the are reprehensible.

How the hell are you getting "anti-semitism" from that speech?

Like many Evangelicals, Perry takes a Bible-based view of the specialness of Israel. It is safe to say he would be a strong defender of it.

Governor Perry was given a defender of Israel award in 2009. So much for the above comment on anti-Semitism.

Do you see dead people, too?

I have read that five times and see nothing remotely anti-Semitic or anti-Israel in the quote.

that sounds about right as a conservative -- vice libertarian, democrat, or liberal -- foreign policy. We intervene where necesary to protect our vital interests (libertarian would not -- see Ron Paul) not where we have no vital interests (liberal or democrat party would -- see Libya), and we will not subsume ourselve to the authority of multi-national organizations (liberal or democrat party would -- see Obama). Nothing to quarrel with.

If Perry's so concerned about our "vital interests," why is he the biggest roll-over on illegal immigration this side of Janet Napolitano?

I'd vote for a third party before Perry based on his neglect of our sovereignty in favor of some vote-buying from Hispanics in Texas. Until he gives a speech reforming his position on that issue, he can't tell anyone in Texas, California, Chicago, Florida, New York, New Jersey, Washington DC, Washington State, Colorado, Georgia, Arizona, Nevada or other states hard hit by his open-borders policies in TX that he has the US's "vital interests" in mind.

"I'd vote for a third party before Perry"

Allow me to be the first to thank you for the reelection of Obama. I always wanted to pay more taxes, lose my private healthcare to some government bureacracy, enjoy the benefits of 9+% unemployment, and, at the same time, relish in the fact that amnesty has been granted to millions of illegals.

Allow me to be the first to congratulate the Perry brigades for their efforts to transplant his "Miracle" to Washington. Conservatives always wanted Perry's debt load in Texas growing faster that the national debt. Ditto the highest rate of uninsured in the nation, 29%-33& drop out rates, 8.4% unemployment, minumum wage jobs galore, and poverty levels eclipsing that of any industrialized state. Not to mention Perry's signature legislative accomplishment--his State Franchise Tax (2006) hike that has cost Texas taxpayers billions and created a permanent budget deficit. Ditto, Social Security deemed by Perry "unconstitional", executive mandated Gardasil HPV vaccines, the Eminent Domain confiscation of private property to build a Trans-Texas Corridor erasing U.S. borders--AND you can still relish in the fact that Perry's "Dream Act", i.e., tax funded rewards & incentives with amnesty, will be granted to the millions of illegals that have made their way through Perry's Sanctuary State & have overrun America.

Don't forget, he also wants to move the U.S. Capitol to Mexico City, replace the Star Spangled banner with La Cucaracha, replace NFL broadcasts with World Cup Soccer and force you to put salsa instead of ketchup on your fries...
What a crock...
