Next month, the United Nations is expected to vote on a resolution recognizing an independent Palestinian state along pre-1967 borders (“Unilateral Declaration of Independence” or “UDI”).
In your estimation, will passage of the UDI resolution enhance or diminish the security of the state of Israel?
The United States can exercise a veto if the UDI resolution is introduced in the Security Council, but what is your strategy if Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas bypasses the Security Council and introduces the UDI in the General Assembly, where it’s likely the measure would pass with ease?
Has your administration crafted any alternate resolutions to compete with the UDI? If so, what, if any, provisions does the alternate resolution make for the security of Israel and recognition of its right to exist?
