Separate but Equal or What?

by Jay Nordlinger

Though I have complimentary things to say about Michele Bachmann today — she is growing on me (even as she is appealing less to voters at large?) — I can’t help noting that she said she’d bring the following items to the White House: copies of “the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.” Strange separation, between the latter two.

A friend of mine writes, “At the synagogue I attend sometimes, there’s a Prayer for the United States Government that asks God to help our leaders carry out their duties, ‘consistent with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.’ I’ve always wondered: What about the other amendments?”

Just so.

P.S. I’d like to see Michele president just to see her Supreme Court picks. I have a feeling that confirmability would not be the top criterion — and that I would love them.
