My dear friend and Irish-American balladeer Danny O’Flaherty has just released a unique new album, The Spirit of Freedom. The album could serve as the theme music for today’s conservative movement (well, at least the one that doesn’t listen to Kurt Cobain, so I guess John Huntsman is out, yet again). It is a series of new patriotic folk songs about the Founders and our founding principles. In the “Boston Tea Party,” Danny sings, “You should have been in Boston to hear the freedom sound.” Where else can you find an Irishman singing songs hailing Revolutionary War heroes Peter Francisco, James Forten and Molly Pitcher? The download is available here (and for those who prefer CDs with cover notes, they are available at his website). A portion of the proceeds are being donated to the American Constitution Spirit Foundation, a non-profit educational group.
