The Vatican-SSPX Meeting

by Michael Potemra

The Vatican is making a serious effort to find a way for the SSPX group of Traditionalists to rejoin the main body of Catholics. At the meeting in Rome today, Cardinal Levada presented the SSPX leaders with a list of core teachings they must accept in order to be reintegrated — but left what the AP is describing as “wiggle room” on the interpretation of certain aspects of Vatican policy that the SSPX objects to. The list has not been made public; the SSPX will take time to study it and reach its conclusions. (SSPX leader Bp. Bernard Fellay, interviewed here, said the meeting was “conducted with great courtesy and with equally great candor.”)
