In keeping with the Capt. Tuttle episode of MASH, had the web page stayed up a few more days no doubt that there would have been people who believed that Dr. Barbarian was indeed a member of the faculty. Now really, how hard would that have been to maintain?

Well, somebody in Ireland - and in Academia, presumably, has a sense of humor.

“I can’t really comment on it further. It is being looked into and it’s being taken seriously,” she said."

I hope not too seriously - this is awesome!

Not a hacking? Then I suspect this was a test page, created and used by some programmer, that escaped the confines of the development environment into production. Not that I'd know anything about how that sort of thing could happen... *blush*.

And all this time I thought Barbarians were followers of Barbara.

If the TCD folks had any sense of humor - or marketing - - for that matter, they would put the page back up, in a section like "mythological faculty", and then start adding similar "faculty bios".

Create an annual contest, give a prize for the best entry, that sort of thing.

Dubliners make a habit of this sort of thing. For example: External Link

Clearly the work of a Crom Paul fanatic.

On second thought, "Hyboria" is almost a direct self-confession from a more honest Obama in another dimension after making another "Pass This Bill" speech.

I was more surprised that Conan -- sorry Dr. Barbarian -- was only an Associate Professor. Good to see academic standards are not diminished in the old country.
