Entourage

Second this motion by Professor Bainbridge, re last week’s L.A. visit by the Emperor Hussein:

My commute here in Los Angeles normally takes 20-30 minutes as I go from Hollywood through Beverly Hills to Westwood. Last night, however, to took over an hour-and-a-half. Why? Because man of the people/campaign finance reformer Barack Obama has decided to raise the unprecedented figured of $1 billion to finance his reelection campaign. So last night he had a huge fundraiser at House of Blues on Sunset for all his Hollywood limousine liberal fat cats, which triggered massive street closures just as I was trying to get home…

So I’d like to thank the POTUS for making life for the rest of us just that little more miserable so that he can waft from fundraiser to fundraiser unimpeded.

But I’d also like to suggest that he and his entourage haul their fraking behinds back to DC and do something useful.

As luck would have it, I’m staying in the Sunset Plaza area at the moment, just above the Strip, a stone’s throw from the House of Blues and probably half a mile from the Fig and Olive, where Obama raked in $18,000 a plate on his little fundraising jaunt to the City of the Angels. Which meant that for those of us who live in the neighborhood . . . well, you couldn’t get here from there — there being wherever you were at 3 p.m. when the closures of all the major streets in the area began.

Leaving aside the inconvenience, was there not something breathtakingly arrogant about the commander-in-chief peremptorily exercising his droit du seigneur while the rest of the peons humbly waited for the great man to pass, tugging their forelocks and averting their eyes lest they be blinded by his majesty? The president is not the king of this representative republic, merely the primus inter pares among citizens, but the arc of the modern presidency has been toward ever greater pomp and circumstance. The smaller the man, it seems, the greater the motorcade.

Even worse: This was not Obama in the role of the president, but Obama in the role of money-grubbing political candidate. This is the second time the BHO’s appearance in L.A. has resulted in widespread traffic misery. One can only hope that he lost at least one vote for every two bucks he raised.
