Trenton, N.J. – New Jersey Republicans tell National Review Online that Gov. Chris Christie will not run for president. The governor, they predict, will make this clear at a press conference this afternoon. Per his schedule, he’ll meet with reporters at 1 p.m. outside his office.
What do you mean Christie's out?? He was never in.
This whole thing was a circus. Why does the mainstream media want him to run in the first place? Rush had it right, how come nobody is demanding Rubio run? Smoke screen, but for what I'm not sure.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseRomney it is then. Can't think of a more uninspiring choice, save the one he will be running against next Fall.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseGuess that settles it. It's Romney or bust.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI choose bust (or Libertarian, either way).
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWho will he endorse?
Or will he wait until the Primary is over to campaign?
Christie carries a great deal of "influence"...
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseGood. The role of "Drama Queen"'has already been filled in the GOP.
Maybe his groupies at TWS, NR, etc. will now be able to focus on why Romney should not be our nominee. They obviously already think it. So let's get the job done.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThere's a lot to like about Christie, but he is not the slam dunk many think. He would struggle with social conservatives, for example. He would have a lot of trouble on guns. Those issues may not mean much to coastal elites, but they are litmus test issues for the majority of voters.
The assumption is Obama is toast in 2012, but the odds still favor him. An uptick in the economy next spring could very well be enough to give him the win over anyone the GOP nominates. Christie may be better served waiting it out and building his record.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI don't know how anyone could think he would be a slam-dunk--his stance on guns, for example, is completely unacceptable to most southern and western conservatives.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseYeah because any one issue would change conservative or any republicans vote from any republican candidate to Obama.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseNo. Republicans won't vote Obama, but don't believe for a minute that any old elephant you put up will win. Independents may not bother. "Moderates" might go Obama. But turnout will be depressed. We will not vote for a "gun grabber", and Christie is one. He favored the "assault" weapons ban among other restrictions.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseNot to mention Global Warming! He's just as bad as Romney when it comes to that.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIt's not whether it's getting warmer or colder, it's do you want to bankrupt the world on science that is so shaky? No one really knows anything about climate, really. To make predictions by extrapolating narrow bands of data is simply wrong. If you are looking at a parabolic curve, but only look at a tiny slice of it, it will appear to be linear. That is the basis of differential calculus. Simply pretending that the line extends in a straight line forever is just ignorant, and right now, we don't have enough quality data to make any such prediction.
I live 4 feet above the high water mark, 100 yards from the Ocean, and have for over 45 years. I promise I'll let you know when we're going to be flooded. When I go swimming, I still put my towel on the same rock, right by the water's edge, that I used all those years ago. At high tide, except, of course, during storms and such, it still comes right up to the same line on the rock it always does. And ever did.
Tell Al Gore to go back to sleep. I'll wake him when my towel gets wet.
If you're a candidate, and you still want to steal my money so you can play pretend, look elsewhere for my vote.
Yup, us coastal elites think about what the real problems of the country are --ya know, jobs, the economy, world affairs, etc, not things like whether we really need an Uzi or an AK-47 to hunt the squirrel or raccoon for the evening stew.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseSo the social conservatives would have voted for Obama or stayed home? Either way how would that help their cause? I'm weary of the social conservatives. They are NOT what this country needs right now. They are the same fools who gave us 8 years of Bill Clinton.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseLet's see - are there any other "Anyone but Palin" candidates left?
I believe the new line will be "the field is set" and no one else can get it because "we said so".
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThank God. We may need him in 2016 and if not, surely in 2020. He should stay in office (unlike a certain other celebrity Republican governor), build a record of greater success, then run.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseLike Romney's record of success - RomneyCare? If you have guts, you'd watch Undefetead and then you will know that Gov. Palin accomplished more in a short period of time than any of those who completed full terms and are now running (while still serving as governor). Moreover, recall why Romney did not run for re-election as governor, BECAUSE HE WOULD HAVE LOST!!!!
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseYes, the only reason Romney can use "I am not a life long politician" line is because he could not win re-elections. 'Nuff said.
I agree on Romney, but I'm sorry, Undefeated is not exactly an unbiased documentary and Palin isn't even a candidate. She's played her game way past the expiration date.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWho cares? The survival of the country doesn't depend on one man, but just getting one particular idiot out of office. Move on already.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseYeah, right--he is out, until the next MSM reporter/editorial writer/soothsayer finds some "unnamed but reliable source close to the governor or his third cousin or his dog" that he is "reconsidering" his "reconsideration!" Course that won't pan out either as I really do believe Christie when he says he is out!
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseChristie showed some sense. Too many hostages to fortune in terms of his positions, in terms of his previous disavowals, and there was too little time. He has a chance of being the VP nominee, and could do a decent job in the traditional "attack dog" role that the VP nominee plays.
Other than that, he'll just have to wait his turn.
