The Dark Side of the Occupy Wall Street Protests

Most of what I found at the Occupy Wall Street protest in Zuccotti Park this morning was inchoate. I met anti-capitalists who berated the federal government for regulating drugs, I learned that Alexander Hamilton was a tireless crusader against a central bank, and I was exposed to the usual 9/11 truthers and conspiracy theorists; and their kinder cousins, the terminally dumb.

Unfortunately, however, a small part of the protest was downright unpleasant. Moments after I arrived, I saw a Jewish gentleman being berated when he criticized a protester. (Shortly after my video camera was switched off, he (inexplicably) shouted the N-word at the same man.)

By the way, during the course of his performance, he told me that he was white, Puerto Rican, Jewish, and African-American. I suggested he was, in fact, Confused, but he didn’t take much to that.

[sarcasm]I'll bet the people who love to post videos of idiots at Tea Party rallies will send this one viral, too.[/sarcasm]

"I eat healthy and I got off the drugs" - however not before the damage was done yo.

Also, what college graduated this pathetic dreg of humanity, although he is in the plumber's union yo. Since he works for $7/hr, it can't be much of a union. Maybe they're just there to glamour him.

100 to 1 that he has either a personality disorder or diagnosis of psychosis.

While I fully expect the usual anti-semitism to ooze forth from the Occupy Wall Street crowd, we shouldn't look to this guy for evidence. I actually checked out "lotion man" on Youtube. The guy is either (a) actually crazy (and appears to be a "local"), or (b) living some ongoing piece of very bizarre performance "art". If (a), he should, in Christian charity, be pitied, and if (b), we should just ignore him instead of feeding the publicity he so desperately craves.

Good thing I don't still live in Manhattan. It would take me all of 1.5 seconds to cajole this Klan to fully display their anti-Semitic peacock feathers.

The State of Israel, and the IDF in particular, are at or near the titular head of grievances for left-wing professional agitators. And once they get going, their disdain for the Jewish character of Israel bubbles over like a boiling pot of water.

The means are endless to draw it out of them.

You left Manhattan for Syracuse?

Wow.

I have noticed increasing anti-Semitism (as well as strong anti-Christian bias) on the hard left for some time now; but what this creep was saying to that elderly Jewish man (who seemed in no way out-of-line) was tactically stupid as well as very wrong.

That GOP win in Weiner's old seat may have been just the beginning of an allegance switch in the Jewish vote; and all I can add is "Come on over to the Grand Old Party." You will be most welcome, and no doubt can add a little more heart to the GOP; while we can strive together to try and convince brain-addled youngsters that working hard and making money is a virtue, not a vice to be used as a negative stereotype.

I don't believe I've ever heard "provocateur" used as a verb.

I'm not Jewish, but -- Oy vey!

This guy (Warning: Profanity laced tirade) is crazy. Imagine if a Tea Party member had a video like the one I just link to... it would be all over the news.

Funny thing is that the Tea Party never came close to this but were villified as if they did.

A good example of why we ought not regard these people with amused distain, as many conservative writers have done in recent days, including some on NRO. This guy and the mopes standing with him are one short step short of the kind of street thuggery that propelled the fascist and communist movements of the 29s and 30s.

Dumb, uninformed, incoherent, yes, but not in any way funny or politically irrelevant. They are extremely dangerous.

+1

They've already shut down streets, attempted to shut down businesses, and have signs calling for the "trial" and execution of corporate executives. Now they have ex-military coming to join them to fight the police. Will it take a night of broken glass in Lower Manhattan before we wake up to the menace posed by these thugs?

Glad to see the NYC plumbers unions membership embrace diversity, well, at least lifestyle diversity not religious.

Occupy Wall Street protesters, with the unions, will begin killing people to get attention.

I wear a yarmulke, and the only time in my 36 years in New York that I was subjected to anti-semitic remarks on a regular basis was when I wore a McCain/Palin button in 2008.

I didn't think I could laugh harder than I did at The Giggler's comment, but then Bandmom just threw down the winner with hers. OMG, I am still laughing.
