An Issue (Dead) and a Slogan (Not Dead)

Text

In Impromptus today, I mention a dog not barking — a dog whose bark we haven’t heard in months. That’s the Obama birth-certificate issue. He killed it off in April, when he at last released the legendary “long form.” In my column, I say, “Think the Democrats miss it? The issue, I mean?”

A reader writes me to say that we should thank Donald Trump — thank him for bringing the issue to a head. Well, I don’t think I’ve ever thanked the Donald for anything. So maybe this is the time.

At the very end of my column, I cite a slogan I recently learned. It comes from a Texas exterminator (no, not Tom DeLay): “You got ’em, we’ll get ’em. They come back, we come back.”

A reader contributes a slogan from Kentucky. He saw it on the truck of a septic-tank cleaning company. “We’re No. 1 in the No. 2 business.” My only excuse for repeating this is that it’s hours before lunch.
