Laughing All the Way to the White House

Herman Cain’s latest video is hilarious:

The bespectacled fellow is Mark Block, Cain’s campaign manager.

Last week, I wrote about Block’s unorthodox approach to presidential politics. This cheeky, offbeat video fits Block’s strategy, which includes a national book tour, tea-party volunteers, and yes, humor. As Cain said at the CNN debate, “America’s too uptight!”

Awesome! I don't smoke, but anybody that will tweak the politically correct crowd has my vote! Go Cain! And don't look back!!!

It could've been worse. He could have been tugging on a joint.

I dont get it. I read the other article and i still dont get it. Can you explain the joke? Is it supposed to be an homage to the old Dennis Leary MTV commercials? If not, whats with the awkward cigarette?

Yes, hilarious. As a matter of fact, the entire Republican field is hilarious. I imagine it's even got Obama chuckling.

But hardly as much as we'll all laugh when we see Obama's face on Nov. 7, 2012.

Honestly, it looks like Cain p*ssing way campaign money he never expected to have.

Tell you what, Mr. Cain. I'll lighten up, and you'll study foreign policy. And we'll meet back up in November!

Considering that video cost about $27 to make and post on Youtube maybe Cain knows a bit more about money than you do.

Seems like you are the one who should be studying, not Cain.....

Yes, it didn't cost him very much to further damage his credibility. He is a great businessman. Oh, and he locked up that American Tobacco constituency. Kind funny that I had to enter The American Cancer Society to post this.

Go Hermanator !

Not sure where you found $27 worth of expense. Maybe a cigarette? The rest is free.

Seriously, would it be such a bad thing to have a president first enter the White House who doesn't believe he has just been raised to godhood?

Sorry Mr. Cain and Mr. Block but these ARE serious times. I want someone who's serious about leading. I really don't want to "lighten up." I want my family's economic situation to improve. This ad disgusts me. The gravity of this election is NOT a laughing matter.

The first two comments don't get irony very well, do they? As for the wasting time and money, I watched this ad...haven't and probably won't watch most political ads, so Cain is ahead of the game. Have you really paid any attention to Perry and Romney's attack ads? Really?

Irony? Really? Ok, if you say so.

Not sure if this is effective, but it is hilarious.

I'd never vote for Cain, but I'm coming to like him. He never expected to be a frontrunner and isn't remotely prepared for it. But instead of freaking out and overcompensating ala Palin he's just sort of rolling with it -- being himself and having fun when he can.

This ad is one of the most elegant rebukes to America's pansified nanny-state culture that I've ever seen.

Before taking back the U.S., or the world, or something, maybe Mr. Block can even out his cheesy mustache.

Foster, you owe me a new monitor...The music, the cigarette (no filter..LOL), the smile at the end...Hilarious!

This ad probably cost probably next to nothing to produce. Yet Cain will probably get a ton of buzz and mileage out of it.

Meanwhile, the "sensible", "top-tier" NRO-approved candidate Tim Pawlenty spent millions on lavish ads that did absolutely nothing to advance his candidacy.

Yes, it will get tons of buzz no doubt, just like his stance on abortion got tons of buzz, but I think it will just reinforce the growing narrative - that he is really not running for office but is using this opportunity to sell books and speaking engagements.
