Romney Announces Support for Ohio’s Issue 2

From The Hill:

Mitt Romney sought to overturn his controversial comment on unions Wednesday, saying he supports Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) “110 percent” in limiting collective bargaining power. …

“I fully support Gov. Kasich’s Question 2 in Ohio,” Romney said at a campaign stop in Virginia Wednesday. “I’m sorry if I created any confusion there.”

UPDATE: The Perry campaign is blasting Romney, e-mailing this message:

The Perry Truth Team awards a 10.0 on the flip-flop scale to Mitt Romney for his less-than-24-hour switch on supporting right-to-work reforms enacted by Ohio Governor John Kasich. …With Mitt Romney finally showing a willingness to flip-flop on his liberal positions, the Perry Truth Team is encouraging Twitter users to suggest other liberal positions Mitt Romney should flip-flop on by using the hashtag #flipflopmitt.

Apparently the "wind" blew into Romney's window on this matter and now he's "decisive".

Wow, what leadership.

Don't worry Mitt, you didn't create any confusion. We knew you'd change your answer once you discovered the old one wasn't working.

Good, this has been corrected.

This was the first major strategic blunder of the Romney campaign. There are many things conservatives, myself included, will tolerate from Romney, but these two are inviolate: stand with the Walker-Kasich reform efforts; and reassure conservatives that he will sign an Obamacare repeal bill (beginning with 50 waivers granted on day 1).

I'm looking forward to all the RINOs who've gored Cain for misspeaking to really nail
Romney here.

What?

Oh, this is DIFFERENT. Of course!

Romney has great hair.

If we nominate this clown we deserve our fate.

So Romney didn't speak clearly and now has to clarify his remarks.

When this happened to Cain, the Rombots were quick to declare that this proved he wasn't ready to be president.

This is exactly what disturbs me so much about Romney. If he had a core belief about right to work laws; stopping government employees from collective bargaining; and having government employees pay their "fair share" of their medical and retirement plans it would not have taken a day to figure out he supports Kasich's on Prop's 2 and 3.

If elected heaven only knows what this guy would do.

This is exactly what I like so much about Romney. Having no "core beliefs", we know what he will do: he will win the election, run a reasonably competent administration, and leave the conservatism to the legislators in Congress.

When he is presented with conservative legislation, he will sign it. At political appearances, he will look attractive and sound good.

This is by far the best we can hope for out of the current field.

You honestly believe that Romney will work tirelessly to turn enough Democrats so that conservative legislation will make it past the fillibuster in the Senate?

Or is it more likely that he will work with the Democrats, and then work tirelessly to convince enough Republicans to support him.

If history is any judge, Romney is much more likely to do the second, than the first.

This is flat-out crazy. The Congress is not "conservative", it is pro big government, but with different spending priorities. And, under your logic, if a Democrat Congress sends Romney a universal government run single-payer healthcare system...he will sign that too. (and, in fact, came pretty close to doing so in MA)

I'm beginning to worry that I would not trust this guy to manage my savings account truthfully.

Oh I'm sure he would sign it. That's why we have to make sure that the next President -- *whoever* he is -- doesn't have a Democrat congress to work with.

"This is by far the best we can hope for out of the current field."

And if that isn't an indictment of the current field, I dunno what it.

Lol, how about: Romney Realizes Still Running for GOP Nomination, Changes Stance on Ohio Prop 2.

It really ought to scare people that nothing he ever said or did matters. It only matters what he says today. Very Obama-esque...all positions come with an expiration date.

Another similiarity is that they are both very good at working with Democrats, and neither has much interest in working with Republicans.

...and referred to Conservatives as holding extremist positions and engaging in overheated rhetoric. Perry did this once too ("heartless").

Romney is far from having this nom wrapped up. The key for Conservatives is to get this down to a 2-person race quickly. While I admire Santorum, Bachmann and Gingrich, all three should end their campaigns and join either the Perry or Cain team. Total Conservative polling accounts for 70%+ of GOP voter sentiment...if Romney wins, it'll be with a 30% plurality. Conservatives in the race need to rectify this ASAP.

Cain: completely unelectable. Not even close to ready for prime time. Is throwing mental "Hail Mary's" on about two-thirds of the policy questions that he is asked.

Perry: completely inarticulate. Do you really want him going up against Obama in the debates? I had hoped he would be the man to carry the conservative banner, but he's not even close. And talk about petty; focus your attacks on Obama, not your fellow Republicans.

We're stuck with Mitt unless we can figure a way to draft a Ryan or a Daniels, articulate conservatives with experience. Mitt's committed to the free enterprise system and will be influenced by the conservative majorities that will be in the House and Senate in 2013. Cheer up everybody!

Romney is so overrated. He got outmaneuvered by Old Man McCain and North Pole Barbie the last go around, and his response this time around is to be the Tea Party's Gumby? Too funny! Even if he wins the nom at this point, he can kiss winning Ohio goodbye in the general.

I guess it's better to go down with someone who acts and sounds halfway normal though, so I can understand the establishment's continued support for the guy. But at this point I really do think it would be best to just write this one off. The establishment should let the Tea Party have the wheel this go around. Let them nominate Cain, and let the 2012 election be a referendum on the Tea Party. Let an overwhelming loss in 2012 be their rebuke. If you don't drown this baby in the bathtub by letting it swim on its own, it's going to keep on dragging halfway decent candidates like Romney into a position of un-electability.

Unfortunately, that prediction will probably come to pass.

Gee, did I miss something? I thought the referendum on the Tea Party was conducted in 2010.
