Thanks To Furman

by Jonah Goldberg

I’m at the Greenville airport (Man, do I prefer small airports!) waiting for my airborne conveyance back home. I had a really wonderful time at Furman University. It’s one of the prettier campuses I’ve been to, though there was a certain “The Way To Eden” vibe when I learned that the campus’ man made lake is brimming with snapping turtles,  swan scat and e. coli.

Anyway, I had a very good time and I think the talk was well-received. It was one of the better organized efforts I’ve seen from college groups in a long while. That shouldn’t surprise because my hosts were Furman’s Conservatives for a Better Tomorrow, a relatively new outfit that is nonetheless taking the conservative movement by storm. They’ve apparently made Furman the number one university in the country for bringing in non-liberal speakers. It’s a fact the CBT organizers are very proud of, but many on the campus are put off by.

Anyway, thanks again. It’s always good to be in South Carolina, where the politics are often nasty but the people couldn’t be nicer.
