Still shaking my head at Perry. That was the greatest flame-out I’ve ever witnessed in a debate. Ever. And that’s including Ford saying there was “no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe.” Whew.

I don't know what the political impact actually was, but Ford's statement was explained by Rumsfeld in his book. That they are not conceding Soviet domination.

Ford's gaffe about Soviet domination was far worse than Perry's forgetting the third Department: we all forget items in a list, but there's no plausible explanation for Ford thinking there was no Soviet domination.

Although I'm not a Perry supporter, I was surprised that the way he handled his brain freeze with humor was rather humanizing and appealing. Romney might be helped by a gaffe like that.

Perry will be remembered as much for wanting to cut Departments as this temporary freeze. And having a sense of humor about it. Neither of which Ms. Charen nor OBAMA nor ROMNEY can be accused of...
