Rick Perry is a 3 time Governor of a state that is the 15th largest economy in the world. While certainly an embarrassing moment the arrogance of the people at NRO is disturbing. I think you guys would fit right in with the Obama crowd. This is why people hate the media. At least he knows there aren't 57 states.
I know this is not precisely on the topic, but I've always thought that this "what departments I could get rid of" line of political argument was a bit silly.
What matters, instead, is what kinds of activities you want the Government no longer to do. The existence of the department that currently does those things is secondary. We could "eliminate the Education Department" by merging it back into Health and Human Services, put Labor back into the Commerce Department, merge Energy into Interior and merge Veterans Affairs into Defense: So what? Yes, you eliminate a platform for bureaucratic growth, but the fact that Education wasn't a separate department once didn't seem to stop federal education programs from growing to the point that folks felt a separate agency was necessary.
On the other hand, if you want to end or dramatically reduce federal assistance for the education of children (along with the attendant requirements imposed on the recipients) then you're saying something that people can understand and argue about. If you do that, then whether we still have a "Department of Education" at the end of the day isn't really that important.
The most uncomfortable moment I've ever witnessed in presidential politics was in 2008 when Barack Obama delivered his acceptance speech on an elaborate Denver stage that was modeled on an ancient Greek Temple. He spoke grand swelling words that had his audience crying with pride - even the famous folk roused by this silver tongued shining star lighting up the American horizon.
@DonnaDiorio - That's because he's a MOOOslem! He wasn't even born in this country! And also his dad was Malcolm X Saddam Hussein! And he is a fascist communist abortionist satanist!
BTW - did you hear he rescued Detroit, the economy, killed Bin Laden, passed a landmark healthcare bill, presided over a slew of revolutions to despotic Islamist states, and stopped enforced bigotry against gays in our military? Nah, I didn't think you did.
Better than it would have had Americans elected anyone else running for president at the time - that's how it's "worked out".
It might have worked out even better if the GOP had not been hijacked by self-obsessed, power-for-the-sake-of-it traitors and remarkably ignorant and internally inconsistent cranks and nutjobs.
um Donna, about as well as electing Bush, twice, and Im sure his disasters were somehow just fine with you... blame the do nothing Congress and Bush, no one man can fix this mess when half the politicians are actively workin towards failure ... wake up please
Given the alternatives in 2008 and so far for 2012, it has worked out just fine.
I found Rich's corner comment via a link from talkingpointsmemo.com. Yes I am a liberal Democrat so go ahead and dismiss me as a leftist troll if you will.
But the point is that there are millions of your fellow citizens who plan to vote for the President in 2012. We are not illegal aliens. We are not on all on welfare looking for a handout. We are not all union "thugs". We have quite clearly seen the agenda of the GOP, and want absolutely no part of it.
True enough this admnistration has been a disappointment for many of us. Personally I am dissatisfied with the health care law as it does not include a public option. Overall though the President has kept significant promises he made. We do have a health care law. Don't ask don't tell has been repealed. Osama bin Laden is dead. It was quite entertaining to listen to folks complaining for two years that President Obama needed to take responsibility for what happens on his watch, do a complete 180 and try to give credit to President Bush for getting bin Laden. It was in that moment that I realized that slogan of "country before party" was just that, nothing more than an empty slogan.
If conservatives had enagedin substantitve debate on the issues, perhaps you could have realized your dream of a one-term Obama. But instead, we had teleprompter jokes, biirth certificate conspiracies, death panels, Waterloo, and hissy fits because the President would dare to tell children to work hard and stay in school.
Regardless of whether the GOP nominates a serial flip flopper in Romney or a man who ignores Article 6 of the US Constitution prohibition against religious tests (Cain), the GOP will lose.
All of those polls that conservatives love to point to showing the President's disapproval ratings, also show one other salient finding. Not a single one of the GOP candidates beats him in a one-to-one matchup.

Seriously? Really? "I am not a crook." "I never had sexual relations with that woman."
Give it a rest.

Clinton: "I did not have......with that women" plus a few more
Obama to Joe the Plumber, Sarkozy, 57 states, etc., etc.....
George Sr.: "Read my lips"
Gerry Ford: golf balls, tennis balls, and stairs
Nixon: "I am not a crook", etc.
Muskie crying.
Gary Hart challenging the media to try and catch him cheating
....on and on, and that is just recent stuff from my poor memory
Awkward for Perry? Yes.
Most uncomfortbale moment ever? No. Just human
God bless,

Worst moment of the televised debate era.

Starburst,
Your 2008 Starburst moment was more uncomfortable. And, for the record, no, she wasn't looking at you.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI'm still supporting Perry, but this should have been the start of his climb back to the top.
Now Iowa is a Must Win, If he can take Iowa he can still win it, especially with a Cain Implosion.
