Samuel, it is of course telling that Kanzler Merkel talked about “politics” rather than “democracy” or “the people.” Politics is what she does, not some grubby exercise in legitimacy. I pointed out how she and her fellows were instrumental in repudiating one of the EU’s supposed core principles in Sunday’s Examiner. Meanwhile, the IMF has quietly changed its rules so that it can help bail out Europe. Of course, when the IMF bails someone out, its basically the U.S. taxpayer who foots the bill. That’s politics for you.
