At Hillsdale College tonight, Herman Cain said nothing about Ginger White’s accusations. He spoke for roughly 40 minutes, giving a speech that was advertised as a policy talk on foreign affairs and national security. It was curiously light on substance. For an address whose refrain was “peace through strength and clarity,” his views on Afghanistan and other matters remain as unclear as ever. He just seemed out of his depth. When Cain was done, he took no questions. The audience, full of conservatives who would have met him with rapturous approval just a month ago, received him politely but without great enthusiasm. This was not the performance of a candidate who looks determined to battle on.
It was curiously light on substance

Curiously?
Because the other times he has waded into the foreign policy arena have been so weighty??
I appreciate the eyewitness perspective though. Yes, I expect he hangs it up before Iowa - maybe before the week is out.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseMaybe they were hoping Henry Kissinger would be whispering the words into Herm's earpiece.
Friday is the day he fades away. Failed would be politician and former executive of a pizza chain best known for lousy pizza. At least he still has the public speaking and book peddling racket to fall back on.

so get back to me when you have the foreign policy stances in depth of the other idiots running!
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIt's only curious that he chose to single out "foreign affairs and national security" as his main topic tonight. The expectations should have been quite low based on past performance.
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abuse"The audience, full of conservatives who would have met him with rapturous approval just a month ago, received him politely but without great enthusiasm."
Sad. Just plum sad.
(Captcha was Chevrolet Volt, which helped set the mood)
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThe sad part is tha the crowd would have been enthused a month ago. The Cain campaign never did anything to provoke enthusiasm.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseHe has been in over his head since Day 1. I wish he would do the honorable thing and hang it up already.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseHate to say it... BUT.... Stick a fork in him. Cain's done. Said it before, the Ladies were going to bring him down.
Quick Question though: Why do all current Politicians have such poor taste in mistresses? If you are going to cheat on your wife, it had better be with Gisele or Adriana Lima. You might get the coveted "Hall Pass" for such a feat.
But, seriously, why would you waste your time on some of the women that cheating politicians are connected with... Monica, Paula Jones, this one for Cain, etc.? What's the point?
That's not what I would call a position of power! JFK had some pretty well-known mistresses, including Marilyn Monroe. Is it wrong that I am getting nostalgic about politicians that at least had good taste in their mistresses?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseMr. Wright beat me to exactly what I was going to write!
Mr. Miller, (and please, do answer this), when have you EVER heard Cain say anything of substance (believable substance) as to foreign affairs? WHEN?
Please, do yourself and NRO a favor --- be substantive yourself. Stop trying to willy-wag us by being 'surprised'. What did you actually expect?
jeeez,.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThis man is not an idiot but a successful businessman. One wonders if he would be seen in this light had those women not made those unproven accusations. He may or may not be the best choice, but he would have been a much better president than Obama.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWith posts like "Win With Mitt", I imagine John J. Miller has no ulterior motive to dampen enthusiasm among Cain supporters.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseUlterior motives aside, how would one *spark* enthusiasm among Cain supporters, given his recent performance?
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abuse" It was curiously light on substance. " Yes that has been one of Cain's weaknesses. But it got me to thinking about Obama. Is his approach to international relations and foreign affairs anything but "light on substance" even after being in the job for three years? I haven't seen any evidence that Obama is a tower of strength in those areas. In fact, the stature of America has been significantly weakened by his actions.
It is sad that Cain is being brought down by attacks from at best questionable smear tactics originating from women of less than stellar character with some suspicious ties to Axelrod/Allred and other Dem operatives. Were he a Democrat the MSM would be erupting in indignation about the scurrilous, unfounded charges obviously brought by racists.
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abuse"smear tactics originating from women of less than stellar character"
Um, wouldn't that also be the case if the accusations were true. Call me old fashioned, but in my book, women of stellar character don't sleep with married men.
As for this being a Dem ploy, please. The Dems would be beside themselves with joy if Herman Cain were the GOP nominee in 2012. Unless you think this might be a bank shot to increase Newt's chances ...
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abusegbh is absolutely correct when he states: "women of stellar character don't sleep with married men." Point is though that the women who came forth to smear Cain all had a history of filing sexual harassment claims/ less than stellar work resumes/in need of money giving the appearance of "in it for the bucks", all of which made their claims suspect. As far as the Dem's being involved, gee, when one of the main accusers lives down the hall from Axelrod who had a finger in the sliming of other Obama opponents in the past with sexual charges, Gloria Allred connections and Chicago connections it is reasonable to assume that connection.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseOverall point is the Republicans can expect this type sliming, in spades, from the MSM and the Dems, so a dose of skepticism about such allegations is warranted.
If there's one thing I've learned from the Cain Candidacy, it's to listen to the person in question yourself instead of relying on second hand accounts.
Even if those accounts are from the 'conservative' media.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseSo - you expected comments about Ginger White in a foreign policy speech?
A) why dignify a lying, defaming, stalking 'beach' with a mention?
B) others on this thread have exposed you as a Romney shill, and curiously, Romney was the first to claim this was the end for Cain - quickly followed by Bachmann.
(Curiously, my captcha was the Volt, too - liar, liar, batteries on fire, just like the 'beaches' pursuing Cain!)
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseHaven't we wasted enough time, effort, energy and money on Herman Cain? Conservatives threw away nine million dollars and untold emotional capital on a candidate who never had the slightest chance of having any serious impact on the race. Worse yet, they are about to repeat the mistake with another such candidate, Newt Gingrich. Spare us the Cain watch. We have no time for a drawn out farewell. Just disappear Herman. Return to the obscurity you so richly deserve. As a presidential candidate you were always a joke. Now you're a tasteless joke. Enough.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbusePerfectly said. I wonder if he's going to try to load up his coffers with one last money bomb before he dissipates into the distance. An absolutely classless display.
