That was excellent. I had no idea Corollo was such a libertarian, although beyond seeing him on Kimmel from time to time, I don't see him much at all (probably because he's a libertarian in Hollywood)
I'll admit, he's the first person that I have heard or read that links OWS to the problems surrounding how we've been raising kids the last 40-years. Makes a LOT of sense - more sense than any other explanation.
Corolla is right about the two possible responses to shame (see minute 9:00 or thereabouts).
You can feel shame and seek to improve your own situation. Or you can feel shame and then redefine things to normalize that which would otherwise shame you. Viola! No more shame!
We see the effects of this all over, especially the family....
Not just nodding, but applauding. Can we put up on a bulletin in times square? I think people should come out wtih a libertarian themed bars and run podcasts from liberatarian and conservative types. That would be cool! Of course I am a 99% type and I tend not to have the best business sense so maybe not such a good idea :). Just a fantasy for a political junkie.
If you like that you'll probably also like his book: In Fifty Years We'll All be Chicks. I have a signed copy up on my bookshelf next to my signed copy of Liberal Fascism.
Carolla was a finish carpenter for years before he broke into showbiz. He said in the morning on his way to work he would always listen to Dennis Prager. Prager has had him on his show a few times recently...
Adam Corolla still has radio show (i don't think it's national) and he is the lead host on the Car Show on Speed. His libertarian tendencies come out all the time.
Wait. Now we're supposed to care what celebrities think. I keep forgetting. Chuck Norris - ok. Rosie O'Donnell - not so much. Victoria Jackson - you betcha. Sean Penn - not on your life. So confusing...
I know Victoria Jackson joined up with some women doing a "View"-like show with a conservative slant, so perhaps I'll concede that, although the segment I saw she was there for laughs, not serious commentary.
And what has Chuck Norris done beyond endorse Mike Huckabee in non-offensive, non-controversial ways?
Sean Penn's whole life is devoted to being a political animal. And as goofy as Victoria Jackson is, she's far less offensive than "fire doesn't melt steel" Rosie, who like Sean Penn makes it part of her pop culture persona to engage in politics.
Victoria Jackson is starting to become that, I suppose, but there's no conservatives I know of who take her seriously at all. Whereas Rosie is gospel for a bunch of braindead liberals.
((laugh)) Very good. You hit the nail on the head.
If this were, say, a Natalie Mains, oozing out libbie nonsense, I'd be hitting the Internet looking to see her education background (dropped out of music college).
But I didn't do that for Adam because I liked what he was saying. You called me on that, thank you.
Adam graduated from high school, but dropped out of Community College on academic probation.
I must admit I'm not a huge fan of Carolla. He was always the "unfunny one" on The Man Show and I only watch his Car Show occasionally for the cars, not for him.
But he hit this out of the park...
BTW, does anyone know who was interviewing him and for what?
If anyone has any interest in unpacking what Carolla was saying, let me recommend, "Envy, A Theory of Social Behavior" by Helmut Schoeck, first published in 1966.
Some sample captions and chapter headings:
"The Blind Spot in the Present-Day Behavioral Sciences"
"Politics as Appeasement of Envy"
"In Praise of Poverty, from Sumptuary Laws to Contempt for the Affluent"
"Envy as Tax Collector"
"The Crime of Being a Leader in the Community"
And this, minus the cursing, is what we need our leadership in the Republican party to be saying. We need our presidential nominee screaming this stuff from the rooftops, because we have to CHANGE THE CULTURE, or we'll never win the war and the country is toast.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseEnvy* is the central organizing principle of the Democratic Party.
*more correct to say "covetousness"....but, much harder to say, so....
