The Map

At the tail end of a conversation with a Republican strategist — a real one, not somebody who plays one on TV — I asked what he made of recent reports about the White House’s Electoral College strategy. “I think they are rightly very concerned about the Great Lakes [states]. They have to look to the Southwest and New South. I don’t think they can win North Carolina [or] Indiana and Missouri is probably not going to be in play either. I think they will make a valiant stand in Virginia. Which is one reason McDonnell will be an attractive running mate. If you can stop them in Virginia they are in a world of hurt.”
