Mr. Biden, who on Monday wraps up an eight-day trip that took him to Iraq, Turkey and Greece, made a reference to Mr. Gingrich during an interview with reporters traveling with him on Sunday as he recounted his discussion over the weekend with Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan.
The meeting was originally scheduled for 45 minutes, but Mr. Erdogan, kept it going for two hours despite that he’s recovering from minor surgery. Mr. Biden said that aides kept shuttling into the room to hand the Turkish leader notes saying, “your doctor says stop,” and he mentioned that the two have known each other for nearly a decade.
“I don’t want to sound like Newt Gingrich,” Mr. Biden said, pausing with a smile.
“I don’t want to sound like I’m inflating my importance or relationship with him,” he continued, referring to Mr. Erdogan. “But we have listened to each other. And he was genuinely listening to my perspective and wasn’t challenging it.”
