Palin Won’t Endorse Before Iowa Caucuses

Sarah Palin told Fox Business Network today that she will not be endorsing a candidate in the next few weeks.

“Not before Iowa,” Palin said, in an interview set to air at 10 p.m. EST on FBN. “And Iowa’s not the end of the road. It’s the beginning of the road really. Newt Gingrich, I believe, has risen in the polls because he has been a bit more successful than Romney in reaching out to that base of constitutional conservatives who are part of the tea party movement. He hasn’t been afraid of that movement. He has been engaged in that movement most recently in order for them to hear his solutions and there’s been some forgiveness then on the part of Tea Party Patriots for some of the things in Gingrich’s past.”

“Romney and others need to reach out and convince Tea Party Patriots and constitutional conservatives that he truly believes in smaller, smarter government,” she added.

She said she was “most interested” in seeing in who Ron Paul, if he does not win the nomination, endorses, citing his strong record on “domestic spending issues.”

I can only hope this was just a short snippet from Palin's full answer to the endorsement question... I have a hard time believing she'd be pushing either Mitt or Gingrich for POTUS.. Neither candidate would be getting us away from Politics-as-Usual, which is what most true TEA Party, Constitutional Conservatives want to get away from...

I am not sure how much this matters.

After she strung us along with the will she won't she tour, I wrote her off.

One thing to endorse when you are retired or currently serving. But another to endorse when you have chosen not to enter the arena, instead becoming a talking head chattering from the sidelines.

Would have supoorted Gov Palin, but I've moved on.

IMHO Perry/West 2012

Good to see Sarah views Ron's input as credible. Adds to both of them I suppose. Ron endorse? I hope not. I hope he goes independent. Yes, he'll split the vote, from both the Dems and the Repubs. Maybe it'll be enough to scrape all of those barnacles off of our ship of state. Otherwise, it's the Titanic. While many will rearrange the deck chairs, I'll be waving from my lifeboat as the republic sinks.

Good on her. I am not sure I understand why so many wish to have this race resolved so quickly. It seems lots of pundits, at least, are falling all over themselves to declare the race finished after Iowa, NH, or South Carolina. Like that would be a good thing.
I should think a long race with all the media coverage involved might produce a strong candidate, vetted in many states. And, further diminish any role Mr. Obama plays in the national dialogue. He hardly seems to be interested in governing anyhow.
Let all the states have a say.

Duh! Isn't that the way it is supposed to work?

I agree; let it play out. Why should the Establishment, talking heads, political columnists, Iowa, New Hampshire, or a couple of other early primary states decide our nominee? I am even OK with a brokered convention.

I also think too much is made of ideological purity. I can support any one of the candidates; my main concern is winning workable majorities in Congress.

If she decides to endorse either Newt or Mitt, her credibility will go down the drain with the folks who believe in a limited, Constitutional federal government and fiscal conservatism.

The only candidate who meets that criteria is Ron Paul, plain and simple. Does she have the guts to go out on a limb and do the right thing instead of sticking with the establishment herd?

Will be interesting to watch, no doubt!

Why as a Ron Paul supporter do you want Palin's support? All of you Ron Paul supporters call her a neo con. Why would you want the support of a neo con. Ron Paul is a fraud and so are his supporters. I hope he chokes on the pork that he collects for his district. He may pull off Iowa but the rest of the country's a different story. Has been consistently polling 4 or 5 in the nationals.

Wrong Paul? She has a great regard for Israel, why would she endorse an anti-Semite? Newt or Rick Perry would be much better choices.

Ron Paul has no executive experience and has shown no ability to actually build the coalitions necessary to actually move the ball toward his very admirable goals. Legislating and leading are two entirely different things.

Sarah Palin's endorsement is to politics what Punxsutawney Phil's endorsement is to weather: A big theatrical show that has absolutely no bearing on reality.

Sarah Palin endorsed a senatorial candidate in her own home state. That candidate was beaten, rather handily by a write-in candidate.

Tell me again, why does anyone want Sarah Palin's endorsement?

I could not possibly care less about which candidate Palin endorses. She is over. By the way, Newt is scaring me more each and every day. Please, please, will someone come out from behind the curtain and save us????

The only people Newt doesn't scare are the Democrats ,the White House and comedians. They must be giddy at this grotesque turn of events. This is the best we can do ??? An aging , ethically challenged ,flip flopping , widely ridiculed , retread embarrassment from the Clinton years ? Who looks like a roly poly elf ? Oh yeah, women ,younger voters , Indys and Reagan Democrats are going to put old Newty , the Gingrich that Stole Christmas , in the Oval Office . There must be collective amnesia among conservatives. We might have a better shot with Tom DeLay or even McCain, again. The Newtmare was bad enough in the 90s ,it's much worse this time because the stakes are so much higher. This is unbelievable.

Pailin's endorsement in the context of the general is about as meaningful as Trump's - not much. But if the field narrows to Gingrich and Romney and there's no decisive end in sight after the initial wave of primaries, it's going to be 'every bit counts' and Palin could make a difference in a particular race.

She'll choose a moment when she can demonstrate some effect, then no doubt try and parlay that into an administration position - or at least an elevated media position should her guy win.

Just like with Quayle, I'm sure there will be a spirited fight for Palin's endorsement! Whoever she endorses loses the fight.

Sounds like an endorsement to me.

"I'm not saying I want Legos for Christmas. I am extremely fond of small multicolored plastic interlocking bricks though. Some are suggesting I might prefer a Transformer, and I wish they would spend more time inquiring about things I am interested in. K'Nex make me happy too. But, you know, that doesn't mean *I want Legos for Christmas*. I'll discuss it with Santa in a couple of weeks when I'm sure."

She'll only endorse when she knows who's ahead. Then she can claim she called it.

She has kept her cards close, but I am fairly certain she will not endorse Gingrich or Romney.

And unlike Christie (whose endorsement of Romney had no effect whatsoever) her endorsement will matter quite a bit.
