‘I Simply Do Not Know Where the Money Is’

I simply do not know where the money is, or why the accounts have not been reconciled to date.” Let’s translate that Jon Corzine quote into Latin, engrave it in stone, and make it the official motto of Congress. Anybody remember that this Wall Street Democrat used to sit on the Senate committees on banking and the budget?

Question: Why should we believe that the motives of people in (cough, cough) “public service” are different from the motives of people in the for-profit sector? Was Jon Corzine a rapacious self-seeker at Goldman Sachs, then a public-spirited man when he was in the Senate and in New Jersey’s governorship, only to revert to form when he went to MF Global? If you doubt that this is true, and suspect that Jon Corzine was the same guy all along, why would you want to give government more power?

Spot on Kevin-- Dufus Corzine is the archetype BIG BIZ-BIG GUV connection. They throw around TRILLIONS and Billions become rounding errors, all the while they are rank buffoons and incompetents. The crave personal power, not to build something that leads to better products or services to others. They digust me.

Another sad day in Our Nation.

At least Blago faced and received some justice.

But Corzine, Clinton, Gore, etc., will get away with the corruption.

And we all are to blame for producing a superficial society lost in confusion.

Democratic Partisans are largely to blame for the folly we see today.

And yet, one has to ask Newt Gingrich, what happened to the 1.8 Million he swiped from the Taxpayer via Fannie and Freddie?

Swiped?
More like payment for services rendered.
I'm sure Newt has a deposit slip showing exactly which bank account that those funds went to; something that Corzine cannot claim since,
"I have no idea where that money is."

Here's the money shot. I suspect that Corzine is 'palming' the cash to that other man.

Is it possible there is a thread topic which would cause to refrain from taking a swipe at Gingrich?

Uncle,

+1. When I saw Old Fan's tag, I started laughing before I read his post, because I KNEW already that he would somehow make this article a vehicle to slam Gingrich. Soooooo fixated.

I'm reminded of the great bit by the comedian Gary Shandling - he'd been guest hosting for Johnny for a week, and on Friday in his monologue he talked about asking a friend to critique his monologues so far that week. His friend said "Well, you seem to spend too much time talking about your hair. Maybe you should concentrate more on current affairs." Gary told the audience that he agreed with his friend and that tonight he would be much more tuned to current affairs. Then he slowly ran his hand through his hair and inquired , poker faced "Soooo, how does my hair look ... right now?!"

Most small businesses watch their petty cash more closely than the US Congress/Federal Government watches $1B.

No, I'm not exaggerating.

This whole mess stinks. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) was apparently asleep at the switch. Wonder if having a big Dem Pol in charge of MF Global kept them from doing their job to keep MF Global from comingling client and firm funds. That this occurred and the CFTC has yet to make the customers whole, places in question the reliability/safety of this market. It becomes even more important to “know your broker/banker.” Yet, that is even more difficult when the "watchdog" is asleep.

It stinks more than you know. The head of the CFTC is Gary Gensler - one of Corzine's good-old boy buddies from Goldman Sachs. At this point in time the key regulators and well-connected Wall Street fraudsters are all the same people. They just change offices every couple of years.

It's also more difficult to know our bankers when the federal government is destroying the ability of community banks to stay in business, so that their fat-cat friends at the large NYC investment houses (mostly liberals) can have an even larger market share.

I've asked this very same question and the typical response is something like, "At least we can kick the politicians out by not re-electing them."

And who runs the elections?

The Secretary of State Project (SoSP) was established in July 2006 as an independent “527” organization devoted to helping Democrats get elected to the office of secretary-of-state in selected swing, or battleground, states.

What matters is not who votes, but who counts the votes. Joe Stalin (Democrat role model.)

Corzine got away with it because they're all in it together. Let's face it, our government is crusted over with a filthy slime of crooks, and we let it happen.

Time to clean house.

Corzine just admitted to a felony. "I don't/didn't know" is a FELONY under Sarbanes-Oxley.

FELONY.

Why wasn't he shackled on the spot?

We're throwing people in jail for 5 years for stealing a box of cigs (or worse, simply smoking some pot), and this guy STEALS at least 1.2 BILLION dollars and nothing happens?

Some "rule of law" we have. Might be something appropriate in the Declaration of Independence about things like this...

Jabb-- all true. If the ethically challenged Eric Holder has a shred of integrity (ok he doesn't, but here's hoping) Corzine will be indicted at least for SarBox violations. this isn't some technical nonsense, this is failing to keep someone (JPM?) from grabbing customer money and stealing it (legally?). Corzine is 'bam's top fundraiser for 2012, what a surprise. Nonetheless, I think 'Bam throws him under the bus to distract from F&F and unemployment. Throw Corzine to the leftwing base wolves.

*snort* Left/right simply doesn't matter anymore - only the rule of law and if anyone is left to enforce it. NR has become irrelevant because of it - it's "all partisan, all the time" - KDW is about the only person here paying attention to the important stuff - I only come here now to look for his posts. Everything else is noise.

Aside: You been following the ZeroHedge stuff on this? If not, read this article and prepare to vomit:

In a nutshell, nothing in any trading or even simple bank account is safe - prepare to just lose it all.

Truly frightening stuff. I just read it this morning. We definitely have the wolves guarding the hen house.
