Titanic, No Thanks

I’ve been travelling for the last day or so and have had no opportunity to comment on David Cameron’s decision (at last!) to play a little hardball with Merkozy, so I’ll take the opportunity now to say “well done.” The motivation may largely have been political survival (the Tory party was heading for disaster over this issue), but the fact that Cameron has finally paid some attention to critics on the right is encouraging.

Meanwhile, writing in the Spectator, Open Europe’s Mats Persson does some useful debunking of myths about the position that Cameron has taken. It’s possible to quibble about some of the details, but Mr. Persson’s words are a welcome change from the disinformation now being peddled by the New York Times and, inevitably, BBC.
