Romney Camp: Gingrich is ‘Unreliable Leader’

by Katrina Trinko

First, Rick Perry was the “career politician.” Now, with Perry down in the polls and Gingrich at the front of the pack, the Romney campaign is depicting him as an “unreliable leader” — perhaps because of Gingrich’s zing during Saturday night’s debate. (“Let’s be candid, the only reason you didn’t become a career politician is you lost to Teddy Kennedy in 1994,” Gingrich said to Romney.) Today the campaign announced

“Over his three decades in Washington, Speaker Gingrich has been an unreliable leader,” said Romney communications director Gail Gitcho in a statement. “When conservatives applauded Paul Ryan for proposing bold new ideas to solve the budget crisis, Speaker Gingrich attacked his plan and threw him under the bus. And while conservatives were fighting job-killing cap-and-trade schemes, Speaker Gingrich shared a loveseat with Nancy Pelosi and lent his name to Al Gore’s environmental agenda. Conservatives are looking for a reliable leader who they can count on to stand by their side.”
