Gingrich Leads in Iowa, SC, and Fla.
Both the NBC News/Marist polls released yesterday show Newt Gingrich in the lead. In South Carolina, he’s at 42 percent among likely GOP voters to Mitt Romney’s 23 percent. In Florida, Gingrich is also at 42 percent, while Romney is at 27 percent. However, if Gingrich falters, Romney stands to gain: “If there’s a silver lining in these polls for Romney, it’s that more than half of Gingrich’s supporters in both states picked the former Massachusetts governor as their second-choice pick,” NBC’s First Read notes.
A University of Iowa poll being released this morning has Gingrich at 30 percent, followed by Romney (20 percent), Ron Paul (11 percent), Michele Bachmann (9 percent), Rick Perry (8 percent) and Rick Santorum at 4 percent, according to Politico’s Morning Score.
