Twinned Deaths

by Jay Nordlinger

A reader writes, “Jay, why did that monster Kim Jong-il have to die at the same time as Havel? Havel, a great man, should be getting the attention, not Kim.”

I remind you that Prokofiev died the same day as Stalin, March 5, 1953. That was a great day. And a bad day. In any event, Prokofiev didn’t get much ink. But his music is played every single day in every corner of the earth.

Absolute dictatorship, unfortunately, is also alive and well. The tares and the wheat, side by side, comme d’habitude.

P.S. The Hungarian Revolution would not get off the stage for the Suez crisis, and vice versa.

P.P.S. The Marine barracks and Grenada.
