Charles Krauthammer last night endorsed the Deroy Murdock plan for getting out of the payroll mess — just change the date of the expiration of the payroll cut. It would take changing two words (February 29 to December 31) in the Senate bill. The problem is that it would leave something like a $100 billion hole in the deficit. I continued to be confounded that House Republicans are supposedly losing the payroll-tax debate disastrously when they acted before the Senate and passed a one-year, as opposed to a two-month, version of the tax cut everyone professes to want.
