Politically, It’s Not About the Payroll Tax

A reader from Illinois makes a compelling point:

The thing that really pulls my chain is that this bill stopped being about the payroll tax holiday once the Keystone Pipeline provision was attached. Now the Republicans have failed to drive a wedge between Obama and his base and have made him look like the great tax cut President. If Boehner couldn’t get his caucus to see that, then he’s blind as well as ineffective. The House should’ve agreed to the Senate bill and run like a thief. Merry Christmas. – Steve Reick
