The Corner

The one and only.

Silent Night

On this Christmas Eve, one of the great unreported stories throughout what we used to call Christendom is the persecution of Christians around the world. In Egypt, the “Arab Spring” is going so swimmingly that Copts are already fleeing Egypt and, for those Christians that remain, Midnight Mass has to be held in the daylight for security reasons. In Iraq, midnight services have been canceled entirely for fear of bloodshed, part of the remorseless de-Christianizing that has been going on, quite shamefully, under an American imperium.

Not merely the media but Christian leaders in the west seem to be embarrassed by behavior that doesn’t conform to their dimwitted sappiness about “Facebook Revolutions”. It took a Jew to deliver this line:

When Lord Sacks, chief rabbi in England, rose in the House of Lords to speak about the persecution of Christians, he quoted Martin Luther King. “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”

Well stated. If the Israeli's were doing this, there would be non-stop screaming and yelling at the UN, and on CNN and MSNBC. Since the Muslims are doing it, no one cares. Very sad.

Martin Luther King? or Martin Luther King, Jr.?

How about Martin Luther.

That's a little petty. The "Jr." is dropped far more often than not. We have enough problems fighting the not-so-loyal opposition, without picking at our friends.

The Secular Caliphate is in quiet acquiescence with the neo-Caliphate. Common enemy.

Friends? Hah, the West has all but turned their backs on the religion they helped spread across the globe.

To add insult to injury, not only is Christendom ignoring the plight of fellow Christians in Moslem lands, Christian refugees from, for example, Iraq are being turned away by some of the same countries--like Sweden--that not only welcome Moslems in droves but defer to them shamefully, to the extent of suppressing the civil rights of their own people in deference to "multicultural" accommodation.

It's about times all faced it: as we near the end of this foul Year of our Lord, 2011, it is readily apparent that Western Civilization has thrown in the towel. It may get survive as some dim and vestigal atavism in places like Texas, but by and large, it's done. We gave liberty a chance. Now we'll try the alternative. The only question is: Tocqueville or Qutb?

Remember the Christians throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
Neither do I.
A fait accompli is, after all, a fait accompli.

Amen, Mr. Steyn.

Somehow, killing someone for their religion is now 100% okay as long as they are Christian or Jewish. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

On that note -- Merry Christmas, good people of Earth.

Mr. Steyn,

Not all Christians have turned their back to the brothers and sisters suffering persecution today. Problem is for me as a clergy person I have too many others in my calling who have turned a blind eye to them.

All we can do is pray the God will change some minds, both here and over there.

I still think Ann Coulter was right. She was not saying force them, btw.

And well said, Mr. Steyn.

I'm not sure what our problem is.

I have a relative, a convert to liberal PresbyterianIsm, who trips off to his church, where the ruling ideology is pro-gay, pro-abortion, "anti-Zionist"...Copts? Probably being investigated by the good elders for Islamophobia and crypto-philosemitism...A cultural Todeswunsch...

Word. Mainline Protestantism sold out to Cultural Marxism years ago. The succesor company, Social Justice, Inc., believes that the Copts have forfeited their Rights as Victims by worshiping the Opressor god.

On, one level, this is not surprising. Christ told the Church to expect exactly this towards any who truly follow Him.

The appalling thing is the silence (or outright approval) of this behavior by many who claim the title of "Christian" for themselves, when it's convenient. Of course, Christ had a few things to say about such as them, too.

Today we remember the birth of Jesus, who died for the sin of preaching to Jews to be better Jews.
