Eric Dondero, a longtime Paul aide, has a very interesting statement about Paul and his time with him over at Rightwing News. Worth reading for pro- and anti-Paul folks alike.
In what way is the linked article "A-W-K-W-A-R-D", or even awkward, for that matter?
The opinions voiced are pretty similar to much, if not all, of what is written on NRO on a virtual daily basis. This has nothing to do with the parroting that goes on in the MSM as much as the easy recognition of what is obvious to anyone who cares to look, namely that Paul is what he appears to be.
The relevance and interest in the article is in their apparent evenhandedness and having been validated by someone as close to Paul as the author.
Eric Dondero is a disgruntled former staffer. And he needs to buy a dictionary because Paul is anything but an isolationist. NeoCons have been trying to redefine what it means. If you don't want to fight endless war in the Middle East you are an isolationist.
If Paul were President the travel and trade ban would be lifted against Cuba. We'd be talking and trading with Iran.
What was the reason for not wanting us in WWII? Not wanting to be end endless war in Europe? Why do I want to talk and trade with Iran, a country that has been at war with us for 30 years? Sounds like more reasons not to vote for him. Thanks.
Can't you guys get it through your heads? Just because we want to disband the military and ignore the rest of the world, doesn't make us isolationists.
That article proves nothing. Except, that Ron Paul is exactly what we always thought he was. A man who, regardless of what his acolytes say, is one of the most ideologically zealous politicians in the U.S. today.
Interesting article. I have tried to do independent research on Ron Paul and this, unlike many articles, does not contradict what I know.
My take on the VA ballot is that Newt is not dumb - he is a bomb-thrower and I think he will try to turn VA into Romney vs. NotRomney. It is therefore important that tne NotRomneys understand what they could be starting when they vote for Paul.
For what it's worth, I love Ron Paul and I think it is good for him to be part of the process. Clinton learned a lot from Tsongas and all have learned from him this round.
WHAT do you know? How do you know it? 30 years in office, and there's one disgruntled guy? Or maybe you know of some others, who would go on the record, but are afraid they'd get publicity in NR and the WSJ if they did. Hell, at this point, they'd probably get tenure out of it, if the career arcs of the 2008 attackers are any indication.
The dog that didn't bark is at least as interesting as the dog that you say barked, but nobody else can hear.
I have been a political junkie for a long (and frustrating) time. I can't ever remember a signed statement from a former staffer like this from Dondero. Again, ever.
At best, we'll usually get some damning with faint praise or personal and petty barbs or something more generally dismissive of the candidate (like what was written about Palin by former "anonymous staffers" on the back-end of the McCain loss). This - this is something entirely different.
There's nothing particularly suspicious about the claim to speak an unspecified number of languages. Presumably there are several languages that Dondero hasn't fully mastered, but which he can speak with enough proficiency to carry on simple conversations.
Eric Dondero is a disgruntled ex legislative staffer who was fired by Paul many years ago for his own improprieties in his position. Ever since, he's been waging a bizarre personal war against his former boss including his own abortive attempt to run against him for his congressional seat in 2008. It's difficult to take anything he says as credible, which is why the Reason crowd generally steers clear of him despite otherwise doggedly pursuing the newsletter story.
Bottom line: Jonah should've checked his sources better before linking to a bona fide crank.
Very interesting piece. While the author does put less importance on some things that I feel are quite important, the part about Paul being under the sway of left-anarchists in the realm of foreign affairs is rightfully given the most significance, for a Presidential candidate.
A-W-K-W-A-R-D.

I guess he's trying to figure out how to paint Dondero as a NeoCon puppet of the FoxNews Zionist Bilderhausbergenburger.

Speechless.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseOnly the comment section under Dondero's essay lists this Reason link:
External Link
In which Ron Paul states in 2007, that Dondero was a disgruntled employee whom he fired.
Moreover Dondero declared his own candidacy against Ron Paul in 2008:

Note in his "resume highlights" that Dondero claims to be quite the polyglot:
"I speak 10 to 15 other languages"
So I guess Dondero speaks 10 languages for sure, and up to 5 others float in and out of his consciousness.
So go figure...

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThere is always confusion regarding dialects vs. languages.
