Santorum Surges Nationally

Text

Rick Santorum may have pulled off a huge upset in the Iowa caucuses, but unlike other candidates who have had their boomlet, there hasn’t been any national polling showing strong support for Santorum. In the RealClearPolitics average of polls, he’s currently in fourth place at 8 percent support.

But that may be changing. In a Rasmussen poll released today, Santorum is in second place, 21 percent to Mitt Romney’s 29 percent. Newt Gingrich is at 16 percent, followed by Ron Paul (12 percent), and Rick Perry and Jon Huntsman (4 percent).

However, it might be worth taking the Rasmussen results with a grain of salt: Gallup shows Santorum at just 8 percent nationally.

UPDATE: At the time I posted, Gallup hadn’t released today’s numbers. Now they have, and Santorum is at 11 percent.
