Gingrich: Romney ‘Timid Massachusetts Moderate’

Text

Wolfeboro, New Hamsphire – It started at the tank.

Speaking at the Wright Museum at a veterans town hall, Newt Gingrich struck hard at Wolfeboro home owner Mitt Romney. Looking at a huge tank on stage beside him, Gingrich remarked that it reminded him of Michael Dukakis — whose infamous tank photo-op did nothing to boost his election prospects. Voters, Gingrich warned, should remember that Massachussetss governors didn’t make the best presidential candidates.

Speaking about the contrast between himself and Romney, Gingrich described voters as facing a choice between a “bold Reagan conservative” and a “timid Massachusetts moderate.”

He accused Romney of hiking taxes by $730 million, “most of them in the form of fees, which were, by the way, mandatory.”

“The two that are most amazing is he actually [imposed] …  a tax on people who were blind. Which is a little hard to imagine, but true,” Gingrich said, referencing a $10 fee required to obtain a certificate of blindness. “The other was a tax on gun ownership. He quadrupled the cost of owning a gun, so you had to register guns in Massachusetts and then you had to pay $100 per gun every year under Romney.”

The take-away? Gingrich is ready to aggressively hit Romney in tonight’s debate.
