McDonald’s

is replacing the toy in its British Happy Meals with books. If they just made the Happy Meal a salad Laura Bush and Michelle Obama might do commercials for it.

Loser food Nazis deserve abuse at every opportunity.

Meh. I drank a quart of 1% milk with my lunch today and happened to read the back. What I found out was that I had just consumed 20% of my daily recommended allowance of sodium. The "healthier" the milk (Skim > 1% > 2% > Whole), the more sodium in it.

I give up. I'm going to eat what the **** I want.

Chik-fil-A has given out books with their kid's meals for years. What's the problem?

Any deviation from a snapshot of America taken in 1956 is a problem.

Your comment makes no sense ... but I will add that books aren't inherently better or worse than toys -- content and intent are important.

"Any deviation from a snapshot of America taken in 1956 is a problem."

Though your comment... like yourself... is utterly void of any semblence of rational thought, it does serve to continue to illustrate your utter hate and contempt for your country. You're a pyromaniac that won't be happy until everything that others worked so hard for has been burned to the ground and only ashes remain. You are well and truly a pox.

A pox of books and salads.

Probably the biggest problem is people like you think it is a good idea. After that, it is the neo-Puritans bullying a private enterprise into doing that which they otherwise would not do.

"people like you"? You don't know me from Adam.

As for neo-Puritan bullying, facts please?

I have four kids and have bought countless kid meals from all sorts of fast-food places. I have nothing against toys *or* books.

Who's being bullied? Good grief - not EVERYone is a victim...

Yeah, I do think that putting an amusing book into my kids hands is a better deal than a piece of plastic junk that is essentially an ad for more plastic junk.
I have long enjoyed the quality "premiums" with Chick-fil-A. Jack in the Box had great stuff when we lived in an area with those resturants (small Playdough containers were a long running item). Wendy's did a month of CDs with a full children's chapter book (Arthur if I recall).
I drive out of my way to get to some of these restaurants, even though I no longer have a happy meal aged kid. Any "bullying" I do is with my wallet.

Of course there's no problem with books, but I'd like to point out that you can trade it in for ice cream -- my kids usual preference.

It's amazing how the salad-tossing crowd wants to worm their way further and further into every nook and cranny of everyone's lives, as they lament how social conservatism is being shoved down their throats.

Michele Obama won't really feel complete until she dictates the menu in your kitchen.

Since she detests this nation, and admitted it publicly, I have no idea how she ever expects my thorough disrespect for her to wane enough to pay heed to anything she says.

I hope it's not her voice on the public service announcement warning me to evacuate during an emergency. I'd have to pull a Mayor Nagin and stay put.

One can only hope.

You sound bitter. Did you feel this way when Laura Bush pushed her reading initiative? Does promoting healthy eating in a nation with ever increasing waistlines offend you that much. You are a Obama Deranged fool.

Why drag poor Laura Bush into this? I don't recall her removing Cokes from school vending machines, strong-arming school districts into feeding kids tofu burgers, or attempting to get fast food joints to kill any possibility of linking french fries and fun.

Books? Ugh! Next thing you know they'll be learning something. Another generation ruined.

This might actually be smart marketing to parents. I hate Happy Meal toys - they are clutter that must be disposed of later, with many kid protests. I don't let my kids order the Happy Meal with the toy - I order the same food without it. However, I might be inclined to let them have one once in a while if they were getting a book with it instead. BTW, Burger King did this a couple of years ago and my kids loved the books.

Actually, I always thought it would be great PR for McDonald's to offer a salad as a happy meal option. My kids would actually want it!
