This is typical Gingirch. He plays the audience, always.
Doesn't matter if he is running to the left of Obama, trashing the sound Private Enterprise experience of Mr. Romney, siding with the Democratic Party.
Newt will get on Stage and say whatever he thinks will help himself...
Hard to forget watching this debate, Gingrich is trying to call for Mitt's taxes to be released like all those Democrats, when he hasn't even done it himself.
It would be nice if a conservative magazine acknowledged that the federal government has no business setting up work programs in public schools. Newt should really run for the school board of whatever city he lives in.
You are right that it is necessary, or, at least, much better, not to set up such programs at the federal level. But the Newt was arguing about the principle, not the details of the implementation. Take the victory and pocket it.
No, but they may well have a place in removing the restrictions that teens have to getting jobs. For example, such micro jobs could be exempted from minimum wage requirements. Or they could be exempted from the requirement that such jobs be done under union contracts.
And this, along with Newt's right-to-the-point answer on extending unemployment benefits, is exactly the kind of response Romney is incapable of crafting, and what will cripple him against Obama.
But he is greatly exaggerating the importance that debates are likely to have in the big show. Ain't gonna be no marathon, Lincoln/Douglas debates.
Typically, the debate winner/loser thing has come down to one or two one-liners or a gaff or somebody's bearing or appearance and such.
This GOP primary season is somewhat distorted in terms of the emphasis on debates. If Newt should win the nomination, he is going to be disappointed in his limited opportunities to slay the dragon. OTOH, the dragon's media mugging of him and all of his history is going to be sustained and withering.
I think if anything, Williams just showed everyone what the Washington press corps has in store for a Republican should Obama lose. It's an MSNBC world. Better take the dawg that fights it.
The debate never ends; and, it would be nice to have a Republican in the White House for once, that gets that.
Debates are more important than you claim they are, but if they ever come close to being reduced to "one or two one-liners or a gaff or somebody's bearing or appearance and such," it's because the contestants are politicians who turn into spoon-fed, pull-string stutterers who can't stray from a script.
Gingrich would alter that dynamic. Romney wouldn't.
PS: FOX just showed Tweet answers on "dodging" questions. So many Democrats and players trying to manipulate the game, and FOX reported as if it was news?
Unfortunately, I caught the last 0.5 seconds of that little dodging segment - what did the Twitter results say? Was it BS filler or was it interesting?
Well, the difference between Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney is that every one of the dozens of smart, meaningful things Gingrich's extraordinary brain casually wastes at one single party is smarter and more meaningful than a torturous Romney debate slogan invented by a brainstorming team, after a long collective effort, and taught bit by bit to a hard-working teenager.
Being intelligent, being informed, being imaginative are neither the only nor the sufficient qualities necessary in a President but, frankly, I am flabbergasted at how resentful some in the Republican field are when it comes to the fact of other candidates, together, not holding a candle in front of the most brilliant GOP mind since Ronald Reagan.
Yes, it's not fair, everybody's special, even Romney, but let's give credit where credit is due. I believe that nobody's compelled to admire, like, or not see Gingrich's past flaws. On the other hand, pettily, speculatively minimizing Gingrich's blatantly bountiful brilliance speaks very badly of Romney's blind establishment support. It's almost as if people would prefer a Justin Bieber as a candidate, rather than a Beethoven, just because Beethoven could be grumpy, stubborn, and obnoxious on occasion.
This is starting to turn into the 1992 election all over again. There may not be a 3rd party candidate(at this time), but it could be a moderate GOP candidate who appeals to Independents getting sabotaged by some guys in the party going Cowboy on him...ala Pat Buchanan.
Newt in a plum spot in the GOP convention is going to be an unmitigated disaster. While many conservatives would cheer their heads off at the though of Newt going off on National TV, it will certainly poison the well for Romney with Independents.
You can't win an election calling the majority of Americans lazy bums who don't want to work, while throwing in some old fashioned race bating for good measure, and you would have to be crazy to think you can.
Newt spanked Juan Williams good. Newt will be a great choice if we are choosing a debater in chief, but we are trying to elect a President who shows us that he is not erratic and impulsive in his behaviors and can run a country better than he runs his campaign.
I'm as leery of Newt's crazy ideas, his history of bad leadership and all his many other flaws, as anyone else.
But this video shows once again that there's no else in the race (with the possible exception of the insane Ron Paul) who can energize people like he can. Certainly not that bloodless, humorless, robot Romney.
It gives me no pleasure to concede it, but Gingrich really went on a tear there for about five minutes. Got to have seriously moved the meter.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseNothing but a typical Gingrich con job. He should be an actor not a politician.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseLove this Gingrich. Hate the one who's been campaigning lately.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseNewt in the end, just sided with the Teachers Unions, who want to dump "No Child Left Behind".
He was for it long ago...
Same as Santorum, who was confronted about his vote for the Prescription Drug effort, and dumped it right under the bus.
Washington Politicians like this will say anything.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThe best interpretation I could put on that is that they were stalling to give their analysts a moment to collect their thoughts. What a waste.
