Let’s Have A Do-Over!

Isn’t it time for Reince Priebus to get out of his chair and, while clapping his hands, say “All right everybody, great dry run. Special thanks to the understudies and body doubles for helping with the lighting and blocking. Now we’re going to start the Republican primaries for real. Jindal! Ryan! Christie! Daniels! Put down the cards and get up here. Rehearsal’s over!

Further proof you're in the tank for Romney...

And if they had gotten into this race, the pundits would have ripped Jindal! Ryan! Christie! Daniels! apart by now and we'd still be lamenting that none of the "good" candidates were in the race.

True dat.
Add Jeb Bush to the list.
And re-add Pawlenty.

Maybe we need new pundits! Get in the race! Start giving us some less asinine comments! No more whining about non-candidates!

I'll echo Gregory's statements: I don't know enough about either Jindal or Ryan to say that they would be as easily dismissed as the candidates that we have now (although, I suspect they would be), but I'm positive the warm and fuzzies wouldn't flow for either Christie or Daniels. Both of those guys has serious infirmities with the "real conservative" wing of the party.

However, if Jeb Bush really did have a different last name, I'm almost certain he could have won the nomination while sleepwalking.

Jindal and Daniels would not have generated any widespread enthusiasm. I'm sure had Perry not gotten into the race, we would have seen his name prominently mentioned as one of the "grass-is-greener" candidates, too. Of course, we all know how that turned out.

The idea of most of these would-be candidates is divorced quite a bit from the likely reality.

If only we had a conservative journal that could have promoted conservative candidates from the start.....

If we're going to fantasize about what could have been .... can we at least put forward candidates with some cojones? I'm always telling my wife that it's Palin and Bachman that have all the testosterone on the Republican side. Why is that?

Ryan reminds me of a bookeeper at a small firm ...
Jindal is so empathetic I'm always waiting for him to start crying ....
Mitch Daniels is the nerd who never got picked for the team or got the date ...

Chris Christie has potential for sure ... but I like him mainly for his style. He's an economic conservative but not so sure about his social/foreign policy proclivities ....

People want confidence. A man with a plan. Moderates in particular will respond to that.

I think the paid consultants are like bad market researchers. They ask moderates what they want and actually believe what they say without realizing that moderates by their very nature don't know what they want ... so they say what they think they're supposed to say ...

How about clear ... decisive ... forceful leadership ....

Oh yes!
After Monday's debate I was thinking about the four spaces between the five candidates.

Hindsight doesn't always work.

Ryan? A congressman/ If he's running against James Garfield...

Daniels? The electrifying Hoosier? If he's running against Benjamin Harrison....

Christie? Yeah, against William Howard Taft...

Jindal? Because Americans long for the breath of fresh air and honesty that is Louisiana politics...

And then somebody always will mention Palin, or Marco Rubio, or Haley Barbour...

Remember the moaning and groaning because Rick Perry wouldn't get into the race?...

America can not sustain four more years of Mr. Obama. Yet, that is inevitably where we are heading. Despite the protestations of the Republican professionals, this field of candidates is not up to the task. Assurances from Beltway lifers such as the standard-bearer who mumbled and fumbled his way through the 2008 campaign mean little, in fact, nothing. There are three qualities Americans find essential in the person who would be their President: an intelligent and unique perspective on the issues, genuine sincerity and likability, and an unassailable personal life. Seems to me that would describe Paul Ryan.

Sounds more like a B team. Daniels has some of the same socialized medicine problems Romney has, coupled with similar personal issues to Newt's. Christie is as much of a northeastern Rino as Romney is, plus he's as rude and abrasive as Gingrich is. Ryan is a mere congressman, like Paul and Bachman, and is most well-known for designing a plan that no one has adopted. But it's one that wildly unpopular among independents (for all the wrong reasons, but so what).

Jindal certainly stands out above Perry, except in his own mind he wasn't quite yet ready. And as his SotU response in 2009 demonstrated, he may need more work on his speaking. Plus, he probably has less charisma (i.e., looks that women would find attractive) than Santorum or Pawlenty.

At least you didn't list Jeb among your dream team.

Jonah,
Your sarcasm seems to have been lost in translation.
