McDonnell Endorses Romney

Virginia governor Bob McDonnell has endorsed Mitt Romney for president. In a statement to the press, McDonnell says:

As I have said throughout this primary process, we need a governor to serve as our next president. America needs leadership and that’s what governors do: they lead. Governors actually have to find solutions and bring all parties together in order to get results for their citizens — they can’t just sit back and cast votes. Mitt Romney has been an effective leader his entire life, in business, the Olympics and as governor. President Obama’s lack of leadership experience is now clear — he has failed to turn around the economy and end the gridlock in Washington. Mitt Romney used his leadership ability in a politically difficult environment to balance the budget every year, cut spending and taxes, and create jobs. He is a results-oriented conservative. This is the type of record that conservatives like me are honored to support — we need a leader like Mitt Romney in the White House to enact effective change that will put our country back on the right path and Americans back to work.

Which goes a long way to explain why Romney had the manpower to meet Virginia's onerous registration requirements while most other candidates didn't. He had the support of the Virginia Republican party.

Agreed. I live in Virginia, and I find McDonnell's actions shameful. I de-listed from Bolling's email list (which I was signed up for when I DONATED to McDonnell's campaign) when I found out he was heading up Romney's campaign.

Well, Cucinelli, I always liked you before, but you sure as heck have my vote for the future. McDonnell, you screwed up. When Romney goes down in flames, people will remember that you went from a bona fide conservative to an Establishment hack. Suddenly, those four years as a successful governor will come under the spotlight of being of a state that benefits greatly from federal government largesse - read: contracting jobs and federal government workers living in the two counties that happen to be two of the richest in the country because they abut D.C.

More establishment warfare?

You do know, Romney helped McDonnell in his campaign to be Governor in VA, as he did throughout the Country after 2008 to empower the GOP - defeating Democratic Partisans in 2010.

It is no wonder why McDonnell makes the best endorsement today.

No matter what the subject, OF will find a way to spin it into proof that Romney both walks on water and causes the sun to rise each morning.

BTW, there's nothing in your little rant that even addresses the point I was making.

Probably won't have all that much impact in the Virginia primary, considering it was already just a two-person field there, but it's still a good endorsement to have. McDonnell would be a very strong VP pick if Romney goes on to win the nomination and thi

Spot on. He'd be a great VP pick.

So Virginia's governor thinks we should vote for Romney because he was a governor. The last time we elected a governor was George W Bush and he's hardly considered a great president. There are a lot of things I consider when choosing a candidate but having been a governor for one term is not one of them.

Oh my...

Now this just sounds truly silly.

GW Bush was an outstanding President, especially with his leading in the GWOT after 9-11.

Yes, every Conservative knows having experience is essential to one's ability to do the job, and Executive experience for the Presidency is a must.

Obama is a primary dreadful example of the folly.

Also, it is essential in today's environment to run someone from outside the Beltway fiasco. Running McCain was an obvious loss, and Gingrich or Santorum are both tired Washington Politicians who will be terribly weak offerings.

Agree with Old Fan. Governors have at least the background of having run a state, and dealing with budgets. Obama was a junior Senator who started to campaign for President almost as soon as he became a Senator... with NO governing experience, no Fiscal responsibilities under his belt and as we have seen, thoroughly lacking in common sense! NOBAMA 2012!

"There are a lot of things I consider when choosing a candidate but having been a governor for one term is not one of them."

You, apparently, are in very rare company, then.

Do you know when the last a sitting president was defeated by someone who wasn't either a current or former state governor? 1988 when Sen. Benjamin Harrison defeated Grover Cleveland. Of course, four short years later, Cleveland would, for the first time ever or since, defeat the man who defeated him, and served his second, but non-concurrent presidential term.

Of the three guys before Harrison who defeated incumbents, Jefferson was governor of VA and while neither WH Harrison or Andrew Jackson were state governors, both were territorial governors of at least one territory.

So, in 235-years, the American people have selected just one guy who wasn't either a current or sitting state or territorial governor to replace a sitting president. I'm sure that's just a coincidence, right?

It's hard to believe that Gingrich wasn't smart enough, nor Santourum, to get his own states primary ballot.

Gingrich should have hired some inner-city schools kids to help him. I mean when these kids weren't busy with their part-time jobs as janitors.

Romney seems to have his stuff together which is probably why he's getting all the endorsements.

Another big deal for Mr. Romney...

I remember when some suggested the Christie endorsement was not going to help. Some of those so stuck on fashion played the only card they seem to be able to these days, saying Christie isn't Conservative. It is nonsense of course.
