Getting the Convicted Felon Endorsement

The day after Dole’s unhelpful endorsement of Romney, Gingrich finally got the endorsement of one of his former colleagues in the House. Unfortunately that colleague is thieving liar Randy “Duke” Cunningham, serving time for taking bribes from defense contractors.

Cunningham was one of my heroes when I was a teenager- his performance leading to his incarceration, and the behavior of several others since, is the reason I don't donate to the party anymore.

I'll give to a particular campaign, but not the party as they have time and time again wasted my money on people who make stupid, immoral mistakes. When they can go a spell without showing signs of squandering money, I might donate again.

Yeah well Tom Delay, another convicted felon, apparently dislikes Newt;s candidacy and condemned him as a nonconservative, erratic, and prone to saying whatever he thinks you want to hear. But I guess Delay is a more credible felon than Cunningham. Go figure,

Dole endorsed Romney? Didn't know with all the articles about Nancy saying that Reagan had passed the baton to Newt Gingrich......oh....oh wait. There weren't any.

Probably because it would really undercut the anti-Reagan candidate in the race, Mitt Romney--say, what was the National Review take on Reagan when he was running for the first time?

Mitt Romney. Moderate. Progressive. He'll save us from policies like the Contract with America and keep anything like the Reagan years from ever returning. He'll fix the ACA so it works for all Americans as well as Masscare works for the citizens of Massachusetts.

Mitt Romney, a tested veneer of conservatism.

You are by far the most sensible person I know in your fight for effective border control, while celebrating American fairness and acceptance of newcomers. I've always had enormous respect for you, Mr. Krikorian, because of that.

Up until this post.

Another incredibly cheap shot at Newt.

Gingrich was not my first, nor even my second choice for President, but because of the Establishment's vicious personal attacks on every single 'non-establishment' candidate including Newt, the only thing I know for sure at this point is that I shall not now vote for Romney (who is a decent fellow himself - and I have always said so) under any conditions. The reason will not be Romney, but rather the tactics of his supporters.

Richard, Totally agree with your assessment of Mr. Krikorian's past work, Gingrich's questionable status, and that the stench of personal attacks is also driving me (quite awkwardly) into the Newt camp.
I choose to give Krikorian the benefit of the doubt, that he's just passing on a news tidbit for a chuckle instead of being mean spirited or a sellout. And I'm not a nice guy, either, I just posted a response to Mona Charen's whining that essentially said she's a poser who lacks any true convictions. I believe this to be true, that we have too many tired, played out pundits here who pretend to believe in conservatism for 3 years and then race to endorse "moderation" and "electability" every 4th year after invoking the Buckley Rule.
Was "Duke" Cunningham really guilty of corruption, or was he just practicing Buckley Money Rules? Make lots of speeches and when election year comes sell out to the highest bidder because, after all, you gotta stay in office to make all that good stuff happen. Could we change the font for all Romney endorsing authors here at NRO to the color of "prison orange?" Just asking...

Does Mark Krikorian have no respect for Dan Burton, who was in attendance at last night's debate, in support of Newt?

If I were Newt, I'd advertise that Tom Delay and Bob Dole endorse Romney!

I can't think of two better reasons to vote for someone else.
