The most recent Newsweek has a profile of Democratic National Committee chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz. The piece notes that she assumes a more combative posture than one might expect a national committee chairman to. In particular, her mild-mannered Midwestern Republican counterpart, Reince Priebus, has called for her to apologize for remarks about last year’s shooting in Tucson, but she refuses to:
A few weeks ago, in talking about the day a crazed gunman shot Rep. Gabby Giffords in the head, Wasserman Schultz pivoted to how “the discourse in America” had taken “a very precipitous turn towards edginess and a lack of civility with the growth of the Tea Party movement.” Republican national chairman Reince Priebus demanded that she apologize for her “reckless comments blaming the Tea Party for the horrific Tucson shooting.”
Wasserman Schultz makes no apologies. Nibbling a sandwich in her House office, she says: “I make strongly worded statements so people pay attention a little to what I’m saying.”
Like the boy in the fable who cried, "Wolf!"
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseDWS is the best thing that could happen to the GOP in this election year. I hope the media continue to put microphones in front of her. She spews stupidity at high velocity. Keep yapping Debbie.

A female Dem Newt, how about that?
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI guess Bill Reilly's comment was removed. While I'm glad that NRO refuses to turn into Daily Kos, I can't help but wonder if instead of outright removal, the comment could be returned to poster for editing.
Nah, that seems a bit much to do. Ah well.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseGreat! Priebus should reply thusly: "So it's all just B.S. designed to get attention, right?"
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI always her hairstyle was her secret to getting attention.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseNah, that's her secret for scaring away bats.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIf Ms. Wasserman-Schultz understands that there are liberals that know there's a clear difference between making "strongly worded statements" and making "obnoxiously offensive allegations", she's counting on them to stay quiet so she can continue to count on the stupidity of the rest.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseDebbie even lies when she states "why" she makes such dishonest statements. She does it because she is convinced she can say anything outrageous she wishes to, because the left leaning press will let her get away with it. That, and her overall level of intelligence (which is abundantly clear with the lack of anything resembling intelligence in her utterances), doesn't allow her to understand that things are changing. She's right up there with Pelosi in dishonest and stupid utterances.

- so does my 4-yr-old.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThis is the woman that our civility president wants carrying the banner for his party this election year. That's all you need to know about him.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseOthers make cool, considered statements because they have proven gravitas and a reputation for saying things worth listening to. But Debbie has to resort to loudmouthery in order to get attention. Ergo, she knows she has no gravitas or good reputation. Poor Debs.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseI wonder how the parents of the little girl who was murdered feel about such blithely-rendered use of their tragedy?
Repugnant in the extreme.
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abusean excellent and sobering point...
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThe lady should be asked to please explain exactly how “the discourse in America” taking “a very precipitous turn towards edginess and a lack of civility" is distinguishable at all from a description of bomb throwing -- in other words, making "strongly worded statements so people pay attention a little to what I’m saying.”
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseShock. Unbelievable. Amazing. Inredible. I am simply shocked by this.
I find it extremely hard to believe that the Republican National Committee actually stood up for the Tea Party!!
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abuse"Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt."
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIs this the same "mild-mannered Midwestern Republican counterpart, Reince Priebus" that just said that the President was "our own little Captain Schettino?"
I wonder if Priebus isn't making a few of his own "strongly worded statements so people pay attention a little?"
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWhy was she "nibbling a sandwich in her House office"? Why does she still have a House office in which to nibble? I doubt that running the Democratic Party is a part-time job that leaves her ample time to serve her constituents
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseSo much for "lowering the temperature."
But we all knew how seriously to take THAT.
