A classmate in grad school (older mom from an abusive relationship) once pulled the, "Unless you can bear children, you should have no say in the matter."
My reply, "As one who was borne, and could have been legally killed, I have every say in the matter."
(Not that my mother would have dreamed of it. Thank God.)
And I just made a donation to Planned Parenthood! Just $100. But the way I look at it, Komen takes in $94 million/year and only gave about $600-800,000 to Planned Parenthood. About 1%.
So you'd have to give $10,000 to Komen to get $100 to PP.
Komen is I guess betting that increased donation will equal 100 times lost donations that are given to Planned Parenthood.
Bloomberg's $250,000 alone is the equivalent of $25,000,000 to Komen. I will feel bad telling the Walk for the Cure folks that I won't contribute anymore, but I suspect Planned Parenthood will be laughing all the way to the bank.
So by your extraordinary logic, you have no interest in fighting cancer in women, but only in assuring abortion. And they should have factored that in, before making their decision. I'm unclear what other possible reason you would have for telling people looking for donations for walk for the cure, why you will not be supporting them this year.
If Komen no longer gives $600,000-800,000 to PP, that means they have $600,000-800,000 more that they can give to other organizations they feel do more good to their cause.
Any increased donations they get based on this decision are just that, donations. Really what they are/were betting on was that they will get more donations by ending their relationship with PP than they will lose in PP. i.e. if you would have given that $100 to Komen, but instead now give it to PP, they're hoping/expecting that someone else who would normally donate elsewhere (or not at all) will give them (Komen) $105. Or, they may just need a straight $100 for $100 swap if the money gets used more efficiently.
Komen has helped thousands upon thousands of women. Rich and poor. Black and white. Liberal and conservative. To see the reaction is a sophomoric 'hates women' comment proves the Left has long ago lost touch with anything representing support for women. God bless Komen.
How is this news? Anyone can vandalize Wikipedia to make it say something silly, including Greg Pollowitz. The vandalism was most likely reverted nearly instantaneously.
Unbelievable the reaction on the Left to their decision. I have never seen a bigger bunch of babies. Planned Parenthood takes in a billion dollars a year in funding and you'd think the $680,000 they are going to lose would mean they'd have to shut their doors.
I applaud the SGKF for their courageous stand. I will start including them in the charities I support.
Hard to call it 'courageous' when they continue to whine and weasel and refuse to be honest about it. If they want to pull funding because PP does abortions, just say so. All this tinkering with the rules to exclude Planned Parenthood while proclaiming it has nothing to do with abortion is just cowardly and makes Komen look really dishonest.
I don't know why you write this fiction for free when Stephen King gets rich with much less creativity with the facts.
Admit it, you're NOT pro-choice, you're pro-abortion. If you were pro-choice you'd defend the right of any organization to CHOOSE who to support. You, sir or ma'am, are a hypocrite of the highest order.
The demonization of Komen by the liberal press this week is "interesting."
How dare those creeps put fighting cancer ahead of liberal interest groups!
Don't they know NOTHING is more important to women than that their impoverished sisters get abortions for freeeee, whenever they want? It's like these Komen people want to throw all our wives and daughters off a cliff, literally!!
(I hope Komen gets twice as many new donations as Planned Parenthood this week!)
This whole incident dramatically demonstrates how O'Sullivan's Law works.
Most of the time we just see the results: Every national organization adheres precisely to the latest leftist doctrine, regardless of the wishes of its members or local branches. In this incident we finally see WHY those organizations are so rigid... we see the whips and chains that are applied when a group dares to deviate by one semicolon from pure 100% Mao!
I must admit I almost always ignore the abortion stuff here and elsewhere. I've also been deeply suspicious of the Komen operation for a long time. It feels like a racket. I'd really like to get a look at their finances, particularly the pay for their top executives.
That said, I feel for the Komen people a little bit. They don't know what's coming. If they want a clue, they should seek out some former Scientologists and ask them how the cult treats apostates. Or, read up on Nikolai Bukharin. Mass movements are most savage to those believers who deviate from accepted dogma.
I suspect we will not be seeing a lot of pink a year from now.
The Left's most shameful argument is claiming there's a direct relationship between a woman's health and how much money is in Planned Parenthood's coffers. It's a great way to steer the argument away from abortion.
I predict that Komen will very quickly announce that it has reconsidered its policy and will once again fund Planned Parenthood.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseWhether that happens will depend on how much change in donation amounts they see, and in which direction.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseJust made a donation to SGKF.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseMe too. Just made an online donation to Komen. It took like 30 seconds.
I encourage you all to do the same. It's a good organization that's getting unjustly smeared.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThe pro-abortion crowd claims pro-lifers "hate women". Do they that forget baby girls are killed in utero too?
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abuseyes.

Not to mention the literal holocaust being taken out against baby girls – er, I mean, female clumps of cells - in China.

Way to go Komen!
