I think St. John’s Newfoundland has the last Occupy protest standing in Canada. Occupy NL is tucked away in a corner of a downtown park, an inhospitable location directly adjacent to the ocean. They’ve been quite innocuous really, and haven’t seemed to bother anyone in the local population. As expected, they have received consistently positive coverage in the local media
Unfortunately, we had an incident here a couple of days ago where a local girl was stabbed and seriously wounded by a random passerby (you have to understand Newfoundland . . . this type of thing NEVER happens around here!) and wouldn’t you know, the suspect is an Occupier.
I kind of feel bad for the idealistic kids who have been keeping this little protest alive. They seem quite innocent (dare I say naïve?) but as we’ve seen across North America, these types of things can attract all sorts of unsavory and dangerous people.
Ace of Spades has a nice way of poking fun at the MSM spin on the Occupy movement. He interpolates "Mostly Peaceful" into headlines such as these.
For example: "Girl Stabbed by Member of Mostly Peaceful ‘Occupy Newfoundland’"
After a while, as they add up, the point become more and more pronounced.
"Mostly Peaceful Occupiers Hit Cop in Head with Brick"
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abuse"Mostly Peaceful Occupy Protest Tainted by Third Sexual Assault"
etc.
The headline on this post is incorrect and legally troublesome. No one has been convicted in this terrible stabbing.

Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseIf no one is convicted, are we to then assume the girl was not stabbed?
Reply to this commentLinkReport Abuseyes she was stabbed, but that does not mean he is guilty, innocent before proven guilty. also, he was not apart of Occupy Newfoundland, he was down there for a couple days TWO MONTHS AGO! he didnt participate in any General Assemblies or Events/Protests, so in actuality he was not a member of Occupy Newfoundland. there is also the fact that ANYONE can walk in off the street and come down to Occupy, as it is in a public space.
Reply to this commentLinkReport AbuseThe man that was CHARGED spent a short time at the Occupy NL site and doesn't attend any of the GA meetings. In the time he was a guest and respectful and nice to everyone around him. Occupy NL is a group of well respectable people that DO NOT stand for violence of any sort. It's our rule number 2 at the camp. My heart goes out to the young lady that got hurt. I myself was a victim of a stabbing 4 years ago and understand. I just hope everyone understands that Occupy does not stand for this or consider the man charged to be part of the Occupy movement. One more thing in Canada you are innocent till proven guilty. No one knows if he did it or not. I only speak for myself not Occupy NL.

First I like to know what you classify as a Occupier? Is this someone that walks in off the street and spend a night in a tent.
Or is this someone that attended meetings, supported local causes for social justice, and better living conditions? Maybe assisting others with their causes, and giving more than receiving.
I'm not no idealistic kid and I'm far from being naïve. It's a matter of showing others, people like you that are providing untruthful and negative views so that you can keep those uniformed of the truths that surrounds them.
Unlike you, I have educated myself to what is happening in our world. I see the unjustified nature that is being created by the few, to control our modern day slavery.
You talk about the few negative things that happen within Occupy, yet maybe you should talk about the 250,000 people that are killed each year by the pharmaceutical companies and the the drugs they produce (This is only those that are talking proper doses). #4 killer of people in the US.
Maybe you should talk about why MD's are not trained in Nutrition and only 6% get training and that is 2 hours. How Vitamin C can help solve depression, that Co Q10 and Creatine can improve your health and help those recover from cancers.
Why don't you add something positive to your's and those around you, so that you can make for a better world.
All of Newfoundland is shock to hear about this stabbing. All our hearts goes out to victims. We are a loving, kind and passionate people. We are looking for ways, so things like this does not happen, yet when those at the bottom of life's scale have nothing, they have nothing to lose. It is we, as a society, that have to assist those at the bottom and lift them up so that we can all live in a safer world.
Occupy Newfoundland is the last standing original Occupy in Canada and we will continue to be. This great country and Continent was started on our shores, and we will be the start of bringing more greatness to our country, Continent and the world.
Occupy is growing and we will join together again across our nation and around the world. Our boarders will be lifted and we will have peace. It will take time, yet by educating ourselves and helping others to see the truth, we will overcome this modern day slavery that is being placed upon us.
Blessing to all. Believe what you know is your heart is right and not the negative propaganda that is repeatedly preached to you each and even night of your entire life's.
news NEVER EVER WORTH SEEING!
Good Night:) Love and Peace for all!
